To be livid with this so called customer service from John Lewis

I'm trying to be organised, so I ordered some Christmas presents from John Lewis online. I got them delivered the other day, and when I opened up the package, two of the boxes were completely bashed up and had holes in them, so there is no way I can present them to someone as a gift.

I decided to email customer services to complain, as the items were just lolling around in a massive bag, so I felt it was JL's fault for them not being packaged correctly.

Here is what I got in return:

Dear Ms XX,

You do realise that it is only October. Therefore, you have 2 months to arrange Christmas presents. So calm down. I will be more than happy to arrange a replacement order to be sent to you. Please advise if you would like me to arrange a courier collection or packet post return for the damaged goods..

I look forward to your reply.

Papa, it is a zombie thread from 7 years ago

Well clearly nothing has improved about John Lewis' customer service over the last seven years.

It was rubbish in 2010 and it's still rubbish.

I'm surprised they're not close to going out of business. I try not to buy anything from them any more. They screw up on deliveries all the time and I've had things that have turned up damaged on a couple of occasions. When you complain their staff are rude and just don't appear to give a stuff.

How do people even find these zombie threads in order to resurrect them?! They must have to scroll through pages of newer stuff to get to the stuff from seven years ago Confused

Jaxhog · 27/09/2017 14:18

Glad it got sorted out.

Nothing wrong with your email - Id have sent something similar. Although I probably wouldn't have mentioned Christmas, and I think this may be where the problem arose. They may have thought you were being a little jokely over the top (wrongly, obviously), so responded with a 'jokey' response. Unfortunate, but human. I imagine the writer is pretty mortified that they got it wrong.

liquidrevolution · 27/09/2017 14:28

Fernanie Actually there is no way of sorting search results into date order and the results come up in n incredibly random order.

pigsDOfly · 27/09/2017 14:33

Sometimes MN zombie threads will pop up in Google searches if there happens to be a thread relating to that particular subject Fernanie.

Fantasticmissfoxy · 27/09/2017 18:10

It was a fairly sarcastic and rude response and I wouldn't be happy either. Very much depends on what your email said however, did you politely request a replacement and suggest better packaging or did you go totally over the score about how this had ruined your Christmas?
