to wonder what the difference is between Nurofen and Calprofen

we have both...the dose for DD2 (1.3) is as follows:

Nurofen - 5ml
Calprofen - 2.5ml

why the difference, looked and seems to be same concentration. nurofen always seems to work much more quickly (which it would do i guess if i am giving double the dose)

can i therefore give 5ml of Calprofen to a 1 yr old...?

I would stick to the correct doseage as advised on the medication tbh. I thought they were just a different brand of the same thing but obviously not. Blush

They are same medicine (although possibly different strength) but different brands.

Stick to doage advice on the label.

They are both the same medication - ibuprofen - nurofen and calprofen are trade names.
I thought they were the same strength 100mg in 5ml - but possibly not so check the strengths are the same.
The dose of ibuprofen for a 1 year old child is

Child 6 months?1 year 50 mg 3?4 times daily; max. 30 mg/kg daily in 3?4 divided doses

Child 1?4 years 100 mg 3 times daily; max. 30 mg/kg daily in 3?4 divided doses

so at 1 year old she is between the 2 doses - it looks like the 2 companies have interpreted the doses differently when getting them licensed.
