This has probably come up before. In fact I'm not even certain I haven't commented on it before myself. But people are getting increasingly cheeky about Freecycle requests aren't they? Please tell me I'm not imagining it?!

This week alone, I have seen requests for a Blackberry mobile (it must be a newer Curve or better), a DSi (specifically not a DS) and a car. A frigging car, I'm telling you! It has to be a decent car btw (can't remember the exact wording, I deleted the email as soon as I got it out of shock at the bloody cheek of the man!). How can people actually ask for these things?

AIBU to be judgey about this? I can never bring myself to ask for anything on there, and there are people asking for cars!

Do you think I could ask for a pony? I have been asking for one since I was about 7! So about 33 years

I think wanteds can be useful, when you want something a bit odd.

For example - a teacher friend wanted a load of old ties for a "making clothes out of old ties" project. I posted a wanted, and a lovely lady whose husband had just retired gave me lots.

Mumblechum - I don't think asking for logs is unreasonable, we get loads of offers from people giving away logs / trees / pallets / old fences to burn. If you're asking them to chop it up for you first that would be cheeky......

I got a 'I am starting my Christmas shopping early - does anyone have an iPod dock or DAB radio?'

Yes. Argos.

I seen one the other day asking for a blu ray player (dream on mate!)

Also oh offered a homeless charity a tv the other day, and the man replied "sorry its not big enough!" Confused I didn't know beggars could be choosers!

TheLadyEvilStar · 19/10/2010 13:14

inmy inbox I have wanted posts for...

laptop
bbq gas bottle
cat things
used jiffy bags

As for someone asking about moderating the groups. They are meant to be. I know on my group I only allow certain wanteds through, and limit them to 1 a fortnight. I also hold days where I post to group saying this is "Baby day" where you can post all your baby wants/offers or whichever day I can think of.

Funniest one I approved and just for fun was one where someone was offering his wife and reuesting another, And a woman asking for a husband, she listed all the things he had to be able to do. Was quite amusing

polkadottytotty · 19/10/2010 13:29

Kind of off the topic a little but are people allowed to offer animals on Freecycle?
I have seen loads offered lately on my local board but I didn't think it was permitted.
We also get loads of Wanted requests - far exceeding the offers , not sure it is moderated effectively.

TheLadyEvilStar · 19/10/2010 13:41

Polka,Animals are not generally allowed to be offered, although you find some moderators are more lax then others.

I don't allow it. If you feel it is not being moderated properly you can contact those higher up in the chain so to speak.

Also you need to make sure whether it is freecycle or freegle as they are different now.

TondelayooohSchwarlock · 19/10/2010 14:09

Maybe the homeless charity needed a large TV to have in their common room?

Sorry to be grumpy but I don't agree that the deserving poor should be ever so 'umble, grateful for anything they're given and doff their cap to the bountiful donors.

Theincrediblesulk1 · 19/10/2010 16:37

Didn't say they should, but if you are asking for a tv and someone offers you one, its a bloody cheek to say its too small, especially as they wanted a 28inch and were offered one the next size down!

And it was offered out of the goodness of our hearts we were actually using it!

I have given away loads of stuff, and never expected a thank you!

TondelayooohSchwarlock · 19/10/2010 17:22

Sorry sulk. I judged without THE FACTS. Smile

Theincrediblesulk1 · 19/10/2010 19:09
