To not understand peoples' obsession with expensive handbags?

Gonna get roasted for this, but I honestly don't get it.

I've seen a few threads on here lately where people have openly admitted to possessing several designer bags costing many hundreds of pounds! Why?

I have ONE handbag. It is in a neutral colour so goes with everything. It's only there to conveniently transport my general effects - hairbrush, phone, purse etc. Why the need for 15 of the damn things!

I thought we were in a recession FFS! Please enlighten me as to how one affords to even think of spending in excess of 500 quid on a bag. Madness!

Oh I love bags. It's the only girly thing I do. I lust openly after them but haven't got the spare cash to spend. there's always something else that needs buying or a bill is due. If I won the lottery I'd be into Balenciaga as soon as the cheque was cleared.

I don't 'get' many other things. I don't get trainers, Per Una, Boden, Lakeland, new cars or designer polo shirts.

But OMG I get handbags. Couldn't begin to explain why though

I don't get it at all. Shoes and bags don't do it for me and I don't notice other people's shoes and bags either, unless they are particularly eccentric.

I get most of my stuff in charity shops, H&M and New Look but don't shop very often. HATE shopping.

I am lacking this girlie shoe/bag/shopping gene.

I loooove handbags and am vehr jealous of Penelope for her Balenciaga Envy

I have a tan leather Celine bag I treated myself after a promotion, a Botkier black patent one, and clutches by Miu Miu (cream) and Marc Jacobs (black).

I love them because they are beautiful soft leather, beautifully tooled and designed, but most of all because I'm a bit shit at styling myself sometimes and it doesn't matter what you're wearing when you have a beautiful bag to clutch :)

IMO it's quite sexist that women are made to feel shallow for wanting nice bags for around £500 but men can spend thousands on a fancy car without being judged Hmm
