its lacyleggins here, halloween namechange.

this is relating to the c**ting mothercare thread. i went in to mothercare today to collect my buggy. the assistant assembled it and handed it over to me. on inspection i noticed the mudguard on the back wheel was cracked and had a chunk missing. the assistant claimed this must have been caused by transit and told me the buggy was still fit for use and that she would order another mudguard which would take around 28 days to arrive.

whilst on my way home my 8month old dd was sat in the doubles kit and caught her finger on the crack in the mudguard, causing her pain and bleeding. i am so upset about this, it was awful.

once home i phoned mothercare and told them what had happened. the assistant said if i return to the store tomorrow they will replace the mudguard with the one from the store model. i asked why she couldnt have offered this in the first place? she didnt answer. i then went on to explain that to return to the store i would have to use the buggy as i cannot push a buggy and carry two under twos. i said do you think this is acceptable as it has already injured my dd and she replied they cannot offer anything else.

i am so Angry and :( about this. my poor dd, her finger is sore. it is one thing for mothercare to sell me a product that is broken and causes inconvieneance but another to provide me with a broken product that is dangerous. Shock

funny how we have different takes on this kind of thing....i would be the one taking responsibility here for my childs injury. it happened whilst in your care,on a faulty part which you were aware of.

why didnt you ask them to replace it in store....or remove it?

HarrowingHoldups · 15/10/2010 20:36

thats the whole point sprinkle i did ask them to replace it instore and they refused saying they didnt have any spare. when obviously they did as this is what they have now offered.

How do you expect them to replace the mudguard for you if you wont take it back to the shop though? Can you remove it before taking it back?
Maybe use some gaffer tape to cover the sharp edges up?
you definately should of stood your ground and asked for it to be changed or that you wanted to swop it for a different model maybe?

leeloo1 · 15/10/2010 21:31

Surely if they know its damaged then they could post the new mudguard to you?

If its a Phil & Teds then without the mudguard there's a danger the child can trap their fingers in the spokes (actually they can do it with the mudguard too, but they have to be determined!).

wasabipeanut · 15/10/2010 21:35

Why did you take the buggy when it was obviously not right?

Couldn't you have simply refused to take it and told them to order another one?

ForMashGetSmash · 15/10/2010 22:30

YANBU.....Phone head office and demand they send you a NEW buggy by courier...or you will speak to the newspapers...tell them you have connections at the Daily Mail (fail)...it always shits crappy customer services up. I don' think you are to blame for the injury...you have a rght to safe equipment for which you have PAID!

emsyj · 15/10/2010 22:36

I wouldn't have taken the faulty buggy in the first place. They could have ordered a new one (I would want an entire new buggy, not just a replacement part - I don't expect a repaired item when I have paid for a new one) and loaned you a display model until it came in if you couldn't manage without.

They could come and collect the faulty one and deliver a new one - if they care enough. They might not though. Don't shop there again is surely the moral of the story. I have never heard a positive report about shopping at Mothercare, so I just don't bother.

Dansmommy · 15/10/2010 22:40

LOL at the posters suggesting Lacy should just insist on a new one...why didn't she think of that?
Backstory people!

ForMashGetSmash · 15/10/2010 23:20

Lol at thinking I read every post on MN DansMummy...

cumfy · 16/10/2010 02:59

Lacy

Was it Phil & Teds that arranged this replacement (via Nicola) or Mothercare ?

It's rather strange and farcical that they seem to want to continue to screw this up.:o

Good Luck.

onceamai · 16/10/2010 06:25

Tape over the crack in the mudguard so that little fingers can't be caught and go back to the shop and get the replacement. After than write a very measured letter of complaint to customer services outlining the problems. No point phoning in my exp. has limited impact and the people taking the calls are trained to "say nothing", the customer rants and comes off on the back foot.

onceamai · 16/10/2010 06:27

Just to add - I actually quite liked Mothercare when mine were little but would never have contemplated buying anything major like a pram or cot from them. Stuck to John Lewis for stuff like that because you know they will always put stuff right - and they have a reasonably effective delivery service.

cumbria81 · 16/10/2010 07:19

I think being "unbelievably angry and upset" is something of an overreaction. These things happen, your child is still alive. Just write a letter of complaint.

DinahRod · 16/10/2010 07:26

Think you should start another 'Cunting Mothercare' thread title so it comes up in search Grin

They really have been abysmal to you.
