the most deprived familes so their children can have 15 hours of free nursery from the age of 2 and extra help all the way to university.

AIBU to think that this is really unfair?

We don't earn good wages, but there is no way we will come near the poorest families. Why should my children have to wait an extra year to get nursery? If you aren't working I don't see why 2 year olds need 15 hours a week of nursery anyway. I'm happy to have DS at home with me now but I can see that next year he will need a bit more and nursery will be good for him.

There are going to be sooo many families that 'lose out' because we are in the middle somewhere (and by that I mean DH's wages of an amazing £16500.00 and my In Cap benefit).

What a waste of money when we all have to tighten our belts!

A cynic would say the deficits were allowed to be built up so local authorities could hold them to ransome.

dont we have a problem with 1 to 1,extra support,TA's being axed?

Actually I don't think I would have a problem with that, if you read the teachers opinions on TES they consider the system with TA's as being less effective than smaller class sizes for example or the ability to discipline disruptive pupils and it's also a cheap way of trying to keep some children in mainstream who would receive better results elsewhere in my personal experience.
I'd like less TA's and more teachers, preferably experienced ones not bogged down in paperwork.

The teachers being bogged down with paperwork should never happen and it is a sign of a failing school. No teachers at the school I teach in are bogged down by paperwork, we employ administration staff for each department.

TAs are essential, I have classes of 10 students that need a TA.

mamatomany · 16/10/2010 17:17

Is that the same in primary schools though ?

vespasian · 16/10/2010 19:17

I don't know to be honest, I would hope so. Teachers should not be doing paperwork, not least because many of us are crap at it.
