to no longer be an active member of DS PTA?

DS is in year 1 and last year I was very heavily involved with the PTA at his school.

However, this year I am thinking of taking more of a back seat as to be honest I became very worn down by being asked again and again to help out at things and organise stuff to find that it was the same folk helping again and again.

I will happily donate stuff and come along to events when possible but feel really guilty about no longer attending meetings and stuff.

AIBU?

Nope - some one else's turn. Big Society innit.

Nope, YANBU, you've done your time and have nothing to feel guilty about. They're lucky that you helped last year. End of Grin

You have no reason to feel guilty. You have helped more than I ever have! I happily man stalls at the Christmas/Summer fete, and will donate whatever is needed, but I'm just not a PTA type person. I do plent of voluntry work though, so I do my bit for the greater good, as you have done too.

I'm completely with you on that one ! This is my first year on the pta as I have now my 2 dds at school so I want to do my bit and will do my best but next year its going to be a different story !

Thanks for your replies it has made me feel less guilty.

It is interesting as some of the folk who are now on PTA have stopped talking to me!

How petty are they?! They're probably jealous that you've found the exit door Wink.

upahill · 14/10/2010 14:02

It's not compulsory y'know!!!

I think you have done a lot and if you want to take a back seat fine.

Honestly? stopped talking to you! In the words of Mark Radliffe ' Unbelievable!!'

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/10/2010 14:09

Our Pta asks that people agree to help for 2 years and then they are free to move on. Most people are happy to commit for 2 years and it means that there is a reasonably constant stream of fresh people with lots of enthusiasm. They also have a list of people who they can rely on to help on an ad hoc non committed kind of way so that people who can't turn up to everything can offer to help when they can.
YANBU

honkytonk, I have thought about joining the PTA in my kids school, but it scares me how clique they are. It looks like trying to cross a mined road... and I have toooo big a mouth to keep it shut. So I stay out of it! Smile

honkytonk · 14/10/2010 14:23

Sad but true I seemed to have been 'ignored' by a couple of people in particular! It seems a bit strange to me as it is not really encouraging me to want to help out.
