Ok, I'm just venting a little here... but I was out last night with some of the lasses, we went to see The Vagina Monologues (which was BRILLIANT, incidentally - if you haven't seen it, do go if you get the chance!), and while we were all piling back into our friend-who-was-driving's car afterwards, one of the others threw a crisp packet out of the car - and onto the ground - and left it there!
The thing is - I HATE littering. But I didn't say anything to her - she's the youngest of the group and she is a really lovely girl - and now I'm thinking, 'should I have said something?' or 'should I have discreetly picked it up and lobbed it in a bin?'
TBH, I don't know if I'm more annoyed at her, or me! Am I just being a Grumpy Old Lady here?
I mean, maybe she didn't realise she'd even flicked it out of the car!! AAAARGH!!!

you are only brooding because you didn't say anything..

correct response I think in these situations is utter shock -- oh my God did you just do that! what are you like

as opposed to a polite word which looks so much more sniffy

on the other hand I might be wrong

I told off large man in the street a couple of weeks ago for littering so might not be the best person to ask

NigellaPleaseComeDineWithMe · 13/10/2010 13:48

Think you should have said something - hate littering too - I'm sure she would have been embarrassed about it - but so what - it's not nice - would she drop litter at home and leave it there!

FindingMyMojo · 13/10/2010 14:09

You hate littering but you didn't say something to a friend - I think you're prob very annoyed with yourself for not simply going "Oi luv, you've dropped something". Live & learn.

BTW I really really hate that kind of behaviour too but I can't stop myself from saying something - the words just fly out of my mouth before I have time to think, even to local crack dealer types who DP says I must ignore at all cost.

No YANBU!! I have just come back from picking up my doughter from nursery when this 15 year old left a cup of coffee on the wall by the the nursery - the bin is 2m away. I just stared at her and in complete shock of how irresponsable she was beeing. She did notice but moved away quickly. Feel like I should have asked her to pick it up and put it in the bin- but felt quite scared of what might happen...

YABU - for a woman who had spent the previous two hours learning lots of different words for vagina, and joining in shouting out CUNT (if they still do that) at the top of her voice, I can't help but feel you've got your priorities wrong.

Wink
Joking - I'd have been raging at the littering too.
Also I'm too well brought-up to be shouting CUNT where someone who might know my mum might see me. [halo emoticon]

Diziet · 13/10/2010 14:37

@ Euphamyknifeinyourback - yes, we DID all shout 'CUNT!!!!!', rather gleefully might I add!! Grin
@ FindingMyMojo - I know - I am rather annoyed at myself, I normally would say something when I catch someone littering and I'm not bothered by how big they are or how many there are of them either!
Oooh, these young people, littering everywhere - tsk, tsk. Wink
