but what the heck is the point of over a dozen teeth if all you'll eat is milk?

Blinking baby is now getting canines. It's not like she needs any of them since she rarely eats any solids at all, and instead uses them to nip me when she's feeding. She will soon have 16 teeth and nothing to use them on.

Surely she'll start taking more of an interest in food soon?

How old is she? I wouldn't worry too much at the moment, especially if she is teething. Lets face it if you have toothache the last thing you want to do it chew something!

13 months. And she's a tiddler. I'm not worried about it, just wish she would eat more food as it seems to stabilise her whole routine and makes her sleep better at night. Has barely eaten a thing for 4 days now, which I know is because she's sore. She's got biiiig lumps in her gums, so they'll surely be through soon.

WIll she not have anything not solid, like soup? DD3 went through a tough time teething and lost a fair bit of weight from lack of eating, now she has all her teeth she will eat anything and is a little chunk Grin

No, nothing at all- she'll wet her lips with the first spoonful and then want to get straight down again. Although I did manage to feed her some baby porridge (gloopy) this morning while she gazed at a Chilean miner rescue on television. First food that's passed her lips in days though.

If its gloopy porridge she likes then there is no reason you can't feed her that every mealtime just so you can get something into her! :)

Have you got a HV you can talk to about it?

girlywhirly · 13/10/2010 14:14

If you keep giving a lot of milk she won't have any appetite for anything else. I'd suggest giving some sort of analgesia if she won't eat because her gums hurt.

pippoltergeist · 13/10/2010 14:22

A one year old who is not interested in any solids is pretty unusual. What does your HV suggest? Perhaps your DD could be checked to make sure there are no physical reasons for not wanting to chew/swallow solids.

Hope she finds something she enjoys soon.

Might have to have the telly on so she doesn't realise she's eating! She didn't realise until the last spoonful this morning, so that was OK.

girly/pip- she only really started eating solids about 6 weeks ago. Ate them with a small degree of enthusiasm (wouldn't like to overstate that though) for a few weeks, then started teething again. Buggeration- back to square one.

HV not worried at all as she is happy and healthy. She is just extremely small and find 6 milk feeds a day perfectly adequate to sustain her (currently weighs under 8kg). Food is just a hobby that she can take or leave, but really it just gets in the way of playing.
