Bit of a rant, Most of the general public that i deal with are nice but there is always someone that talks to me like shite, its getting to become a daily experience. I work for a heating company, so can appreciate that there are times when people can get irate that their boiler isn't working, but why shout at me? All it makes me want to do is to put their call at the bottom of my list of priorities.
Im going to look for a job that isn't customer facing as im so sick of it.

I worked a full year for "The Job Centre", taking claims, advising people on jobs, answering comments about claiming benefits.

It drove me to a Mental Breakdown and a suicide attempt (all before my 22nd birthday..)

There was not a single day I didn't have someone screaming down the phone at me that I should "Die of cancer.." or threaten to find me and kill me.

So no, YANBU.

People are aresholes!

I vowed never to work in a job that dalt with the public ever again a few years ago. They are horrendous. If I am in a bar or restaurant I am always nice as I know how they are treated. Some people are not happy unless they are moaning and complaining

I work for social services Biscuit enough said I think.

I'm in the finance dept, but I still get at least 3 people a day screaming and swearing down the phone, because they haven't had their money... not my fault, i'm admin, my job is to put the information together and give it to someone else. I then have to screen this persons phone calls incase they are nasty to said person... Hmm

I used to be in customer service and had to leave due to the stress. The thing that clinched it was dreaming I was the Terminator and machine gunning down the entire office and customer section...and going back to check they were all dead!!!!!!!!

Then I knew it was affecting me adversely and has to leave!

When I had left one of my bastard customers (I had the same ones all the time) said "oh, you were always so helpful", how I stopped myself from replying "and you are the biggest, nastiest, most lying and treacherous bitch I've ever met" I don't know. How I remained polite is a mystery. Grin

I'm afraid to say I once flipped at a customer, but with good reason...

I was a manager at The Pier before it closed down, and this happened in the middle of our closing down sale.

I was called to deal with a customer who was in the back area abusing the staff. Apparently she wanted one of the staff to stop taking another customers furniture to her car and tell her the price of a vase NOW! So I escorted her from the back area and explained if she wanted to know the price she would have to join the queue for the till as it would be unfair to all of the people who have queued patiently for 20 mins for us to jump in and take over a till to check a bloody price.

This resulted in her threatening to chuck the vase in my face. Well, that was it, I said to her; "you know what? I don't give a fuck what you think! This store is closing down, we're all losing our jobs and have a lot more important things to worry about than your fucking ugly vase, like how I'm going to feed the baby in my belly! So get the fuck out of my shop before I call security!"

I think she felt a bit sheepish by this point as she put the vase down and said lamely "I'm putting in a complaint about you." I said "Go ahead! What are they gonna do? Sack me? Bit late for that!" And walked off shaking

I'm not proud of myself for swearing at her, but fuck me, it felt good!

Im a gps receptionist and I bloody hate it, not enough appointments and lots of patients equals stress and being talked to like a piece of dirt.
We have such a bad reputation and its so unfair because all I ever try to do is be helpful,Ive been close to tears on many occasions.
Ive had other general public facing roles but this is by far the most stressful, I find elderly people are the worst (not to stereo-type!)

I work in facilities management and I had a lady SCREAM at me yesterday. It was just after 8 in the morning and I hadn't even taken my first sip of the morning and she called...

I made the fatal mistake of asking her for her phone no. "QUESTIONS!!! WHAT'S WITH ALL THE QUESTIONS!!"

Then laughed sarcastically evey time I said anything. Horrible woman.

I'm only working in this job because I had to take any job when I relocated here to be with DP and after I'd been made redundant. I've applied for over 100 jobs in the past 6 months and can't find anything else. Sometimes I get that beep in my ear (work on the phones) and want to scream.

ARRRRGHHH... .people are WANK.
