To complain about a pair of shoes which made me fall on my arse?

Back in June I bought some low/medium heeled shoes from the New Look teenage 915 range (they fit me well as I have skinny feet/ankles/calves). I wore them to a restaurant... walked there fine no problem but when I got in I skidded a little on their (wooden? polished?) floor. On being shown to our table I skidded again and this time when I tried to 'catch' myself, my supporting foot skidded as well and I fell down very ungracefully and made a loud squeal... highly embarrassing and very painful (see pic on profile). My hip hurt all evening and I couldn't sleep on that side for several days.

I think the combination of the shoes and the floor were to blame. The heel of the shoe is towards the middle of the heel rather than at the back (if that makes sense?) so not quite as stable as other shoes. The restauranteur made damn sure there was nothing on his floor that caused me to skid.

So I have receipt, photos and am just getting round to typing a letter to New Look. Not unreasonable is it? Not quite sure what I want them to do about it now mind.

Kids shoes means no VAT Wink

Yes mackerel the design was flawed IMO so that could be my angle, but I have no wind left in my sails

Fimbo the pic was taken a couple of days after I fell

QuizteamBleakley I am loving your name but I wasn't joking about writing to New Look, no Blush Sorry to hear about your accident, that sounds truly horrendous

Cereal that sausage was served to DS and you are right about the juxtaposition! I shall take the bruise pic down shortly.

Are you that lately on that advert with the really really bad fringe?

Because if you are her, I want to say "Your fringe is really bad, you should be suing your hairdresser"

ShirleyGarrote · 12/10/2010 15:14

*lady

sethstarkaddersmum · 12/10/2010 15:15

Well I am not in favour of blame & claim but I LOVE the idea that everyone who ever falls over in high heeled shoes should complain to the manufacturer. Shoes should be fit for purpose, dammit, and fit for purpose means being able to walk in them.

Go for it OP, I will help you draft the letter if you like Grin

TheFoosa · 12/10/2010 15:29

heheheh ShirleyGarrote, her fringe is TERRIBLE

I always wonder how they can re-enact their accidents without doing themselves permenant damage

surely they aren't actors? Hmm

ShirleyGarrote · 12/10/2010 15:33

and that stupid man with the ladder. "I was given the wrong sort of ladder"

er...how about "Oi! boss, this is the wrong sort of ladder, can I have the right sort of ladder please?"

TheFoosa · 12/10/2010 15:39

I must admit that I have had a near-amputation with that plastic strapping they put on parcels

didn't get my own advert though

nor do we have a handy bin to store it like the irish actor lady got for her fictional workplace

ShirleyGarrote · 12/10/2010 15:45

I like the presumption that anyone wtaching gives one tiny nugget of shit about whether or not the plastic strapping issue has been "sorted" or not.

Buy Meindle Hiking Boots. When I put my foot down it stays there.

YABU. You bought/wore silly shoes, you fell over, the keyword here is you.

Galena · 12/10/2010 18:19

Hehe, I looked at your profile, Lemur, and was a little puzzled about the sausage! Couldn't see the link Grin

I agree, YABU. It was an accident, and if it happened 4 months ago, New Look will just laugh at you.

5Foot5 · 12/10/2010 19:38

If you were trying to claim compensation then YADBU

If you are, as you say, just tempted to draw their attention to a potential hazard then that sounds fine. Especially as these shoes were in their children's range.

I have occasionally, well on several occasions actually, contacted companies with feedback about their product or its packaging, but never with a view to personal gain. Having said that I have sometimes been sent a small token as a thankyou for my comments.
