To miss my DP hideously because he is away for 2 nights for work (he always is Monday and Tuesday now but this is the first time)?

I really need to man up but the house is so quiet, I've only just finished work so too tired to go out and I miss him because he's wonderful, i love him more than anything and now i'll have to cook for myself

Get a takeaway, watch some rubbish tv programme you know he'd hate, soak in the bath and then sleep starfished out across the bed - you'll learn to love the time apart, even if it's just because you appreciate your time together even more when he gets back Smile

minipie · 11/10/2010 19:28

Excellent advice from 2blessed. I have a load of crappy programmes and films that DH would hate stocked up for exactly this purpose.

And if this is going to be a regular thing, maybe make plans to meet up with a friend (or have them over to watch a film) next Monday or Tuesday?

happiestblonde · 11/10/2010 19:46

Thanks :)

There's nothing he won't watch with me, even Coronation Street. Ah DP, I love you.

I am definitely going to star fish like I've never starfished before tonight!

Happiest- I shall be lame with you! DH is away for his first night of new job tonight - away all sun eve-fri every week from now on. Pregnancy hormones keep getting the better of me!

I'm going to kick the dog out in the yard soon and then go and watch rubbish on TV in bed.

2blessed2bstressed · 11/10/2010 19:57

Good idea Minipie - make one of the nights a regular "girls night" when you catch up with a friend or two. Pre dc's I did this with a couple of girls I used to work with, we took it in turns to bring a main course and a dvd (nothing fancy, pasta bake and the like)and had a right old gossip and laugh. DP would've been bored stiff!

PrettyCandles · 11/10/2010 20:00

Oh I'm lame whenever dh has to be away.

When I go to bed alone I usually fish a child out of his or her bed, and tuck them up in mine, as I so miss having someone to cuddle up to!

Robino you poor thing! Yeah rubbish TV is key, I'm on a corrie-eastenders-corrie marathon. I wish I had a child to fish out or a dog, the house is so quiet!

I really do hate him being away, there are no good sides. I still get really excited to see him every day I wake up and he always meets me off the train coming home from work and cooks something amazing and greets me with a glass of red wine so I can unwind before a shower after work. He's so lovely. I don't know what I'd do without him.

I have a dog and two pre-schoolers; I'll have days when I can send them to meet you off the train Wink

happiestblonde · 11/10/2010 20:45

Yay! Wandsworth yeah? Super. I miss my old dogs. I really should've bought icecream in advance for this, I'm tempted to eat the Lindt chocolate Santa I bought for DP last week.

I feel your pain..but as others have suggested crappy t.v helps..esspecially stuff he rolls his eyes at Grin..or a good book..or have a friend round you haven't seen for an age..you have to plan these things woman! Grin

Whattodo1 · 11/10/2010 21:00

I'm so glad there are others who feel the same as i do, my dh is 1 week in to his fortnight of having to work away which thankfully isn't a regular thing but i miss him like mad, early evening not to bad sorting ds out etc, butlater i get so lonely and now it's over a week in I'm also missing the "wink wink" intimacy. aarrrgghhh!

usualsuspect · 11/10/2010 21:02

I quite like it when my dps away Grin

Whattodo1 · 11/10/2010 21:05

lol people keep saying i'll get used to it but i'm not if it's monday to friday it's bearable but any longer it's a nightmare, i'm hoping he feels the same lol

happiestblonde · 11/10/2010 21:33

2 weeks is a long time! We went to Italy for a month in the summer then I started a new super stressful 13 hour per day job so we don't get nearly enough time together even when he's home.

It scares me a little how much I love him. What if he died or left me? So pathetic (not the death bit)!

I never sleep well when DH isn't in bed with me, even if I do get to starfish. Grin. It doesn't happen often, mostly it's me who goes away overnight and oddly enough I sleep perfectly well in a hotel bed, it's as if my mind knows that I'm not at home Confused.
Mostly the tiems when I do sleep alone at home is if either DH or myself are full of cold and keep each other awake coughing/snoring/committing acts of unsociable nocturnal behaviour. DH usually goes and sleeps in the spare room because he doesn't tend to wake up when the dc's call - he says he sleeps fine without me Envy.

Hullygully · 11/10/2010 21:36

I work in politics and have spent a great deal of time around the PM and his gorgeous wife. They are genuinely one of those couples who make you feel either incredibly lucky to have what you have or that deep pang of sadness if you're missing someone because the love between them and their kids is so obvious especially behind closed doors. Give Cameron a chance, he's inherited a complete mess and although I don't believe with the CB cuts, they have to fall somewhere. He's a good man who really, really loves his family and believes in what he's doing.

Surely their love is enough to keep you warm?

Hassled · 11/10/2010 21:42

No, sorry, I don't think their love is quite enough to keep me warm. It's fucking freezing here.

OP - it is hard but you get used to it, scarily quickly. DH is away all week every week - and I think it's done us good; we miss each other, we make more of an effort with each other at weekends. There's less taking for granted than there maybe was before.

Whattodo1 · 11/10/2010 21:55

happiestblonde i know exactly how you feel and I often think the same thing.

My friends are great company for chats etc, but only good for a short time then you start missing other things like cuddles etc

I'm counting down the days now but they are going very slowly!

Whattodo1 · 11/10/2010 21:57

I agree deffinately that you don't take each other for granted when you are seperated for a while but i would struggle to just have a relationship at weekends.

happiestblonde · 11/10/2010 22:53

I would too. He's away for these two nights because he moved to London so that we can spend most of the week together as I work silly hours and he only has to actually be there for 2 days a week, the rest can be done anywhere. He got a little drunk at our house warming party and when asked why the bloody hell he has moved 160 miles from his place of work he declared 'I moved for love! There is absolutely no rational reason for me being here, it's all love!' It made me laugh a lot :)

Hassled - I think different things for different couples; great that your situation works for you I guess there must be some benefits in time apart I just can't find them yet
