ebay buyer wants me to 'do something'

i sold some second hand boden items on ebay last week that had some names written on the labels and a few iron on ones.
the woman that bought them thinks that this is grounds to ask for a refund and send them back or partial refund and keep the items. i have bought loads from ebay that has kids names on the labels and thought this was just a given when you get second hand so i said i didnt agree with that warranting a refund or partial refund.
what do you think guys. should i have mentioned this in the listing. it just seems really petty.

I would have expected you to mention it in the listing.

ValentinCrimble · 07/10/2010 22:38

I think it should have been mentioned...only because SOME people like the labels intact...because it's Boden, or whatever other label they like. She is miffed because now she would have to cut the labels out...would not matter if garments were Teco's. Anyway...I don't think it's unreasonable to not mention the labels but know plenty who would mind.

Vallhala · 07/10/2010 22:38

She's pushing her luck, the cheeky cow!

I don't know what the outcome would be if from ebay's POV if you were to ignore her but that's certainly what I'd do.

colditz · 07/10/2010 22:39

You should have mentioned it, I think.

NestaFiesta · 07/10/2010 22:39

You probably should have mentioned it in the listing, but if you stated they were used, then what does she expect?

Chil1234 · 07/10/2010 22:41

It's never worth upsetting an EBay buyer. (The rating !! The rating!!!). Get her to send them back completely, offer a full refund, resell them including description of labelling, and put it down to experience

whatserface · 07/10/2010 22:43

it was ststed that they were used and not all the items were boden, some were other brands in a bundle.
i feel so pi$$ed of, like shes got to try before u buy and thats not what ebay is about. she asked me about the condition of the tops and i said they had been used at nursery for my baby! i mean i have bought stuff before and just accepted that its what you get with the terratory in buying second hand! better negotiate this refund then!!

I'd have mentioned it in the listing and wouldn't be thrilled about getting stuff with names written in if it wasn't in the listing.

Chil1234 · 07/10/2010 22:46

Object lesson with E-Bay. Mention every single tiny flaw of an item in your advert. If the item exactly matches the description, warts and all, your buyer cannot claim it is not what they expected. Second-hand can be a load of old tut or 'nearly new'... leave nothing to the imagination.

curlymama · 07/10/2010 22:47

I think you should have mentioned it in the listing tbh, she should get a partial refund, but not a big one.

starlingsintheslipstream · 07/10/2010 22:48

I would have expected it to be mentioned and would be a bit hacked off in her position tbh. But then I always sew my labels in for easy removal - maybe I'm a bit anal about it Blush!

worldgonemad72 · 07/10/2010 22:48

I think you should of stated it in the listing tbh, i dont but kids clothes with the names in, purely because if my dd lost it while out play or school etc then it would never get returned to her unless i cut out the tags and stuck iron on ones in, which i normally cant be arsed to do. I dont think she's being petty, ask her send all items back, give her a full refund and relist them more accurately.

loveinsuburbia · 07/10/2010 22:55

"but if you stated they were used, then what does she expect?"
Sounds like the seller has never received items with names in before. I've bought loads on ebay and not had anything with names written in so it wouldn't occur to me that they'd be there.

ValentinCrimble · 07/10/2010 22:57

It's not part of the territory..not at all. If it were then holes or stains would be fair enough too...and some people see the tag as part of the garment.

PrivetDancer · 07/10/2010 23:06

I dont think she's being petty, I'd be pretty annoyed if I was her.

taintedpaint · 07/10/2010 23:08

You definitely should've mentioned it in the listing, although I can understand why you didn't. As for whether she should get a discount or refund....I don't know. How many clothes were in the bundle, how much did it sell for (roughly, if you don't want to give the exact figure) and what were the brands?

IMO, whether or not I offered a refund or partial refund, the decision would be made on what kind of bargain she got. Unless I paid a lot of money for the clothes, I probably wouldn't have asked for a refund myself, but I would be a bit miffed and probably wouldn't have left a brilliant comment for feedback.

Whatever the decision you make, at least you know for the future to list that there are names in the clothes!
