to think a Six Week Check should consist of more than this

I was asked if I had normal delivery, hiw I was feeding the baby and then was told I should get a coil or implant fitted after breast-feeding so I wouldn't get pregant for at least three years. I then had blood pressure checked and was ushered out by her standing up and opening door for me to leave.

AIBU to think that this isn't what a six week check should comprise of considering I had a rather traumatic, long labour with coomplications (undiagnosed back-to-back labour, culminating in episiotomy and forceps 45 hours after labour started)

This is my first baby so wasn't sure what to expect but thought stitches would be checked at least. I know I definitely was BU not to say something at the time but was so taken aback by being shown the door after three minutes that I just left in a confused daze.

What did your Six Week Check consist of?

I had a phone call, because DS was still in hospital but they clearly needed to tick a box. I like my GP and we just had a quick chat about how scbu were treating me!

I had my daughter overseas in Asia and I saw my ob/gyn every day when I was in hospital (planned section) and then at 2 weeks and then at 6 weeks. I know my ob/gyn very well (saw him through Asherman's treatment, then every week during my pregnancy) and we'd already discussed contraception (never used as breastfeeding surpressed my periods for 21 months) and feeding.

He felt me, scanned me, discussed how the section may impact rebound Ashermans. Also talked about when I could have sex (straightaway I believe) and had a quick look at my daughter and took the picture of her for his wall.

I think I was in there 15-20 mins.

With the paed (present at the birth as well) I think I went in the first week, the second, fourth and eighth and sixteenth weeks.

We discussed her size (she was early and 5 lb), feeding methods, in fact I was worried about breastfeeding and she took me through it there and then and checked my latch and generally reassured me about her weight gain (she'd lost 15 pct).

We also discussed her bent head (breech and pressed against rib cage) and her clicky hip.

In there about half an hour the first time.

When I came back to the UK I had a HV visit us (about 20 mins) and saw her twice after that. For 5 mins. Just said well done about weight as she'd stuck to the 9th centile.

My 6wk postnatal check with DD (she's now 3.1) was quite thorough - I was told to make 2 double appointments with my GP for DD and I. During my appointment the doctor palpated my stomach to check the uterus had contracted. I was given a smear and she also checked everything was in normal working order 'down below'. I had my BP done, was asked allsorts of questions about feeding, sleeping, general wellbeing and was also asked about contraception. DD had a full 6wk check and also her 8wk immunisations during the second appointment.

My post mc check, on the otherhand, was an altogether different story. I mc'd at the start of the year and I was admitted to hospital as I was haemorraging during my mc. I actually developed chickenpox whilst in hospital and the Gynaecologist said that the mc was down to the chickenpox. I wasn't scanned on my release, but was given an appointment at EPAU for 1week later to be scanned and to check everything was OK.

Roll forward one week - my appointment time was 11am and by 1pm I STILL hadn't been seen! Bear in mind I was in EPAU and spent over 2hrs watching overjoyed mums-to-be clutching scan photos and delighting at showing eachother. I was so pleased for them, but it felt like such a kick in the teeth at the time. Eventually at 1.45pm I was called through to see the obs/gynae consultant. He asked if the bleeding had stopped to which I explained no and I was still passing clots - he didn't bother to examine or check what I was passing. He then said 'are you OK for contraception?' to which, in shock, I muttered something about my GP. Then, he said 'OK you can go, you're discharged'. No scan, no BP check, no examination - not even a basic temperature check! I was so shocked by the whole episode that I just burst into tears and left!

the six week check up for myself was very brief. I had an EMCS and then nearly died a few days after because I developed septacaemia (spelling?). had an emergency laparotomy and spent 2 weeks in hospital recovering. Doctor didn't look at c section scar or laparotomy scar which runs all way down my tummy, didnt ask how I felt just wanted to know what contraception I was using. Told her sex was the last thing on my mind after what I went through so she just said, "ok, think about it". That was it.
