to think that complaining to Ofcom about Cheryl Cole's decision is totally ridiculous?

Ok, I don't agree with her choices at all. Cher and Katie fucked up and shouldn't have gone through. How many times did they say "no second chances?"

I also don't agree about the 2 manufactured bands being put through when there were good bands who applied for that category.

I don't agree with Dannii putting annoying Nicolo through either. Much better talent than him.

But, it is called the judges decision, not decision of the great british public. If it was our choice, they would make more money by getting us to phone in and vote who we want through to the live shows.

I think it has gone waayyyyyy OTT the way Cheryl has been getting death threats, people complaining to Ofcom and stupid FB groups demanding that other contestants return.

Could this be why this wildcard thing has been introduced this year? Because they knew the better acts weren't put through and they knew the public would kick off? Fix? Never!

Its only a sodding TV show FFS anyway.

The nation has gone mad I tell you! I dont watch the xfactor so am watching all the kerfuffle about the contestant and Ms Cole/Tweedy/whatever as a bemused bystander. It reminds me of the craziness when Diana died to be hoenst...

Serendippy · 07/10/2010 10:14

YANBU. It's only a tv show.

dinkystinky · 07/10/2010 10:14

translation for readers: hoenst- a variant of honest Blush

"I think it has gone waayyyyyy OTT the way Cheryl has been getting death threats, people complaining to Ofcom and stupid FB groups demanding that other contestants return."

Just do a Venn diagram of "the type of people who complain to ofcom" crossed with "the type of people who take x-factor seriously".
The intersecting part will undoubtedly be moronic twats who'd make darwin reconsider some of his theories.
Both groups are bad enough on their own, when you combine them they're fucking atrocious. The same type of people who complained about Chris Morris or Ross/Brand without ever having seen or heard them. Sad people who want to be outraged and self-righteous about something so they feel they matter.

DetectivePotato · 07/10/2010 10:24

Agree mayor.

Every year people moan about the show being fixed and what not, but every year the same people go back to watch it and again moan about it being fixed. Just stop watching for god's sake!!!!

Am I the only person to think Gamu should not have went through as she was crap?

The made up bands are not new, didn't they make one up of girls last year or the year before? The category was so poor that it was inevitable

Some people need to get a life. It is a fun TV show that is needed on a dull Saturday night.

MsVelvet · 07/10/2010 10:45

i doubt that the people who are doing all this public complaining would be bothered to use their money to vote for the contestants they are wanted to see back in anyway. thats what makes me laugh!

mumeeee · 07/10/2010 10:46

YANBU. It's a TV programme andthe judges make the decisions at this point not the public.

Nefret · 07/10/2010 10:55

I don't agree with her choices either but I find it ridiculous that people are complaining to Ofcom. They need to get over it, for goodness sake it is a TV program and isn't so important to real life.

I'm sure it was all done just to get people talking and watching anyway and it has certainly worked !!

vbusymum1 · 07/10/2010 10:59

Don't know the full details as I don't watch X Factor but "Life" "A" and "Get" come straight to mind

sausagerolemodel · 07/10/2010 11:19

Complaining to Ofcom is pointless unless the complainant can specifically say that the broadcasting code of conduct has been breached, which in this case it hasn't.

The section on "fairness" is here

stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/broadcasting/broadcast-codes/broadcast-code/fairness/

..but they are really concerned with fair representation of people in general. They wouldn't be interested in the specific outcome of a talent contest where it has been made clear to the contributors that the judges/producers decision is final, and on the X factor you can be pretty sure that this will have been agreed with a signed on by all participants.

To be cynical, I fully expect that the producers knew exactly what was going to happen in Gamu's case and are milking the publicity and completely confident that she will be one of the wild-cards selected on the live show. The fact that her visa story means that she is front-page news every day this week is just money in their pockets. (those phone calls aren't free are they?)

Rocklover · 07/10/2010 11:25

YABVU to even care. I detest X factor because year after year it produces a load of shite acts that the British public have to endure afterwards as they desperately try to cling to fame.

Even the rare ones who manage success are terminally annoying (think Leona Lewis), I think the whole show is crap.

lovelymumma · 07/10/2010 11:28

I think the right ones have been picked, because they have obvious charisma.I told my daughter the day before the 3 that were picked would be chosen, because I think they are the ones that you remember. It's not about who can sing the best;it's about who comes across as the most interesting.

DreamTeamGirl · 07/10/2010 11:29

Oooh I love Xfactor this year.

Never watched it before but DS & I are having so much FUN with it this year!!

Cheryl's decision was a crap one IMO, but yes complaining is pointless
Looking forward to Saturday's show tho :)

wishingchair · 07/10/2010 11:33

You're not being cynical sausagerolemodel. Of course they know. The fact that we've had endless back stories of all the people who've made it through virtually from the start makes it clear they know who is likely to be in the final 12 from the outset. And so they should! It is a highly managed process and people are selected on the basis of whether they will generate votes (revenue) or not. It's nothing to do with Ofcom so no YANBU

(love mayorquimby's venn diagram Grin)

lovelymumma · 07/10/2010 11:36

But don't you think from watching the original auditions, that the 3 girls chosen,do sound the most interesting and are more likely to get votes.

DreamTeamGirl · 07/10/2010 11:45

From original auditions lovelymumma probably yes, but then they should sell how much it is 'down to this moment' etc etc for judges houses

Not that I care- I am just having enormous fun with it.

It doesn't affect my life one bit!!

AlpinePony · 07/10/2010 12:15

You appear to have missed the point of mumsnet. You should be writing pointless letters for almost anything.

Ragwort · 07/10/2010 12:19

I fail to understand what adults see in these sort of programmes - I have to leave the room if my DS watches it - and that's only before DH insists on using the OFF button.

Seriously, get a life folks !

pagwatch · 07/10/2010 12:24

I love that people are complaining to Ofcom.. the world is totally barking and I enjoy the vision of people trollingthe web looking for people to feel furious about..Cheryl Cole, Cat in bin woman..

All that anger about nowt.
I think it keeps them off the streets. It is like a community service.

And then we can all post really angry atthe stupid things people get... really angry ...about....
