I think you are, yes!

Someone will pipe up and say its a rip-off, fair enough, so are lots of things though. All those fancy Innocent tubes of pureed fruity gubbins etc - why not just eat an apple? Etc.

What's your beef with it?

Well, I think its marketing ploy, probably a bit of commercial toot, but i've bought them and found them rather handy to be honest.Blush

debka · 06/10/2010 20:15

I think I know what you mean- if the child is big enough for a straw drink, surely it's big enough for cow's milk.

colditz · 06/10/2010 20:16

you know what? I bloody love the idea. beats Ribena or Froot Shoots.

If they would only do normal cow's milk in a carten, my children would never get anythin g else whilst out! (Too old for 'toddler milk' and won't touch it)

fluffles · 06/10/2010 20:17

i don't know why i find it odd.. i suppose i don't really know what toddler milk is for.

if you're out and about and your toddler is thirsty do you not give water or if they're hungry then food?

i think i thought that toddler milk was for nutrition and/or bedtime in which case why would you need to have it 'on the go'.

(note: quite obviously i don't have a toddler so someone will have to enlighten me)

I'd think they'd be quite handy and be a bit "grown up" for the child - especially if older siblings are drinking juice cartons.

I did give my DD "follow on" milk for a year though as I was concerned about her actual food intake and wanted to be certain she got enough iron etc so I am probably a marketing mug.

debka · 06/10/2010 20:18

Do they not do cow's milk in a carton then? I used to buy it for DD but it must have been overseas....

sloanypony · 06/10/2010 20:20

"i think i thought that toddler milk was for nutrition and/or bedtime in which case why would you need to have it 'on the go'"

Its also (sometimes anyway) for first thing in the morning - toddler wakes, chuck them carton of milk, go back to bed, go back to sleep Grin

ie no going down to a cold kitchen?

Hmm. I agree you wouldn't necessarily use it on the go when out and about, generally toddlers will drink other drinks for thirst by that kind of age...

sloanypony · 06/10/2010 20:21

You can buy UHT cows milk in a carton.

BelleDameSansMerci · 06/10/2010 20:22

They do - they have cow's milk in a carton at my DD's nursery although I've never seen them in the shops. I give DD cow's milk now - she had follow-on up to being 2 years old and I would definitely have used cartons with a straw if they'd been available.

colditz · 06/10/2010 20:25

They can be found in nurseries and schools - but not shops. They are seriously missing a trick here.

colditz · 06/10/2010 20:25

Sloany, where?

sloanypony · 06/10/2010 20:27

Bear with, will find a link...

'Toddler Milk' is a weird concept full stop! I second other posters - cows milk in a carton is just as good at toddler age!

I agree - to get regular milk in cartons with straws would be excellent. No need for 'toddler' or 'follow-on' milk.

CoolMilk is one of the companies that does school milk but I'm hopeful sloany will find a link to something more commercial.

sloanypony · 06/10/2010 20:33

Here we go

There are flavoured ones but also a semi skimmed one. Ocado do them, I think (they certainly do some Moo brand) and Sainsburys.

There may well be a fresh version, I've never actually looked.
