I want to finish work now

I've got 9 weeks left of work (cleaning) until I stop for maternity leave.

It takes a day doing nothing to recover from 4 hours cleaning, then I work the day after, and I'm then useless the next day too.
Come the weekend, nothing in my house is done, the house is a shithole, so I spend Saturday cleaning and tidying, then I'm buggered all day Sunday.
I worked yesterday, and today I can barely move. My bump hurts, my hips hurt, even my bottom hurts!

AIBU to be seriously considering stopping work in a couple of weeks? Financially, I think we could just about manage (althoughdh thinks not)

WWYD?

Could you Google the symptoms of SPD and feign that you have it. Doctor will have you signed off in a trice.

Don't bother flaming me anyone, I've got raging PMT today and you'll be biting off more than you can chew Grin

TheCrunchyside · 06/10/2010 10:40

yanbu

any chance your employer would let you slack off a bit but still pay?

FindingMyMojo · 06/10/2010 10:41

YANBU - take the time & enjoy (silently agrees with what cupcakes suggested)

cupcakesandbunting · 06/10/2010 10:44

Anyway, isn't your employer supposed to find you jobs that are do-able during pregnancy?I know mine did (I used to work dressing windows for a very high-end department store) and I couldn't physically do my job without knocking everything over with my huge bump OR crying with pain (I did have SPD) My boss was ace and found me other stuff to get on with. Admittedly it might be difficult in your job OP but might be worth mentioning that you're finding it a struggle.

Yeeehaa · 06/10/2010 10:44

I'm self employed, and suspect that all the arsing around organising sick pay etc, it would just be easier to make do for a few weeks.

So, next question: How do I persuade dh that I'm not just being lazy? (and before anyone says it, he's not a twat, he just doesn't understand that being pregnant is tiring, and sometimes painful!)

Cupcakes - I'm a self employed cleaner.

But I might suggest to my boss that I would be better employed drinking cups of tea and reading Country Living. :o

Fashion a pregnancy bump out of a baby papoose and a sack of potatoes and make him wear it whilst performing cleaning jobs. Tell him that however shite it feels for him, multiply that by ten.

cupcakesandbunting · 06/10/2010 10:50

I feel for you, Yeehaa. When I was a mere tweleve weeks pregnant, I put in my request for maternity leave to start one week before my due date. I felt full of energy and very sprightly when I filled thaat form in. Very optimistic. The SPD/swollen ankles set in and the lovely sciatica too. My doctor signed me off 6 weeks early after it took me the best part of ten minutes to slowly waddle to his consulting room from the waiting area Grin

You could have SPD. Mine started with hip/bottom pain but wasn't that bad at first.

ayjayjay · 06/10/2010 10:51

Can you ask to be put on light duties for the next 9 weeks?

Have you had a health and safety assessment? If not can arrange one and explain your difficulties?

ChippingIn · 06/10/2010 10:52

YANBU

All points well made (especially by cupcakes!) - nothing left to say :)

Oh thought of one thing - just tell DH you'll go back a couple of weeks earlier... then worry about that when the time comes!

ayjayjay · 06/10/2010 10:52

just realised you're self employed so my post is useless :)

ToniSoprano · 06/10/2010 10:53

Is this your first baby? If you think you can manage financially then go for it... Why on earth shouldn't you have a restful few weeks off to get ready for motherhood? I think your body is trying to tell you something...and perhaps you should listen to it.

Yeeehaa · 06/10/2010 10:55

I clean at private houses, so I'm not sure H&S asessments and lighter duties could apply!

YANBU. I finished work 6 weeks before my due date, full time very physical job, always on my feet and rarely sitting down. It was hell. I was in agony and knackered within an hour of stepping foot in the place.

Surely your DH must be able to see how knackered you are? If he really is that oblivious, just drop to the floor and cry Grin

Honestly though, listen to your body, only you know when you have reached your limit, you don't have to justify to anybody else. You need to rest up now :)

Yeeehaa · 06/10/2010 10:56

Toni - fourth baby! (So I really should have expected this!)

cupcakesandbunting · 06/10/2010 10:59

I am still championing my feigning SPD plot. DH will be unable to argue with a doctor's certificate. The only thing is if you are not a duplicitous personlike me then you will feel guilty.

wigglesrock · 06/10/2010 11:02

Yeeehaa You really have my sympathy, am cleaner too, and am 21 weeks pregnant with dc3. Absolutely knackered, work for 5 hours a day 3 days and one night a week. I am due to finish at Christmas seven weeks before due date and am already counting down weeks!!

I know everyone's entitled to H&S assessments but to be honest not top of employers list when dealing with cleaners Sad. Finish as soon as you can, I finished early when expecting dc2 and it was best thing I ever did. Get those feet up NOW!

Yeeehaa · 06/10/2010 11:22

Thankyou all :)
I think there's going to be a dicussion tonight!

Yeah, but saying "should" and "ought" don't really help, do they? If you've already got three children and are about to give birth to another, no wonder you are tired! Give yourself a break, girl....it is your duty as a mother to get yourself together and fit for this next phase, best of luck!
