Weird one, don't know what to do. Or if I should do anything at all?

Basically my DS came home from nursery with three pubic hairs on the outside of his shorts. He always changes when he comes home and that's when I saw them. Not worried as such, more perturbed...

booyhoo · 05/10/2010 23:30

what am i talking about? the nursery? no as others have said, the police.

TheLadyEvenstar · 05/10/2010 23:32

OP my apologies i misread the op....

BitOfFun · 05/10/2010 23:33

I would speak to the nursery first. There may be a reasonable explanation. But I would keep the hairs, and the shorts (don't wash them, obviously) in case you decide a police investigation is warranted.

changingnamechange · 05/10/2010 23:34

HuwEdwards: No concerns with his nursery at all. He's being going there, part time, for a year and he loves it. loopyloops: He came in the door and (for once) got changed right away so I didn't think that they'd be from inside the house.

OP i am not doubting you at all, but hairs are light things that fall easily. do you think that 3 hairs would stay on his shorts from before collection at nursery, the walk to the car, teh journey home and then walking into the house? is it at all possible he picked tehm up at home? did he put a coat on to come home? was there anything in the car than he pulled across his lap? another coat or scarf or something? sorry, i know you are freaked, jsut trying to help.

ChippingIn · 05/10/2010 23:49

It's weird. I'd keep the hairs, his pants & his shorts separate from everything else overnight and think about what to do.

I can't see any logical/innocent explanation for it.

I don't know what I would do... what I think you should do, if you are sure they couldn't have been picked up anywhere else is call the NSPCC - talk to someone there. They will probably tell you to go to the police I'm guessing....

It seems 'over the top' but you have to remember the children at the Little T e d s Nursery seemed happy too :(

memoo · 05/10/2010 23:54

I'm sorry and maybe a bit paranoid after recent events but I can't believe this is for real

ChippingIn · 05/10/2010 23:54

Booyhoo - I know what you are saying but although hairs are light, they are also kind of static/sticky so don't really fall off do they and if there were hairs in the car, unless the OP has a teenager as well, there's not likely to be pubic hair in the car/on a coat/scarf is there?

I don't know what I would do - I would feel a complete idiot going to the police about it, but I would also feel I was letting my child down not going as well??

ChippingIn · 05/10/2010 23:57

Memoo - I wondered that too. I wondered about asking the OP to PM someone on the thread with her normal user name to verify it's at least not a 'new troll' but really, it's not on to ask that is it :( I suppose we have to just give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

booyhoo · 05/10/2010 23:58

i agree with chipping, keep the hairs and clothing he wore in ziplock bag tonight and ring NSPCC.

i understand that chipping, i am just thinking of the weather we had today, meaning coats on plus lots of wind would make it unlikely that hairs would stay on any outer clothing. unless OP is somewhere warmer, i note he was wearing shorts and not trousers. i suppose a warmer climate could make things stick a bit? sorry, i am not much help.

changingnamechange · 05/10/2010 23:59

BitOfFun: Thanks for the input. My DS is the same as ever. No change in behaviour at all. Thanks to everyone that's posted. Just anxious not to let my son down in any way.

OP posts:
memoo · 05/10/2010 23:59

Isn't it awful to doubt every thread! You're right though chippingin, we should give everyone the benefit of the doubt

booyhoo · 06/10/2010 00:00

i don't think this is a troll. it just doesn't strike me as that at all.

JockTamsonsBairns · 06/10/2010 00:00

Just wondering if there are any male staff at the nursery? It's just that stray chest hairs can look indistinguishable from pubes. Just a suggestion.

booyhoo · 06/10/2010 00:02

or beard hair? any staff with a beard?

changingnamechange · 06/10/2010 00:06

ChippingIn: I'm not a troll. I spoke to my sister earlier and we agreed that I should ask for opinions on here as we (lurk) independently . "I don't know what I would do - I would feel a complete idiot going to the police about it, but I would also feel I was letting my child down not going as well??" This sums it up for me.

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 06/10/2010 00:09

You said that you brushed the hairs off. Could you find them again?

colditz · 06/10/2010 00:14

beard hair looks just like pubic hair when it falls/is pulled out.

ChippingIn · 06/10/2010 00:14

changingnamechange - it was this I would really appreciate if you could tell me how you would handle this if it was you comment that made me think - hmm journo maybe?? The journos tend to sort of ignore posts and keep asking for other opinions.... and with all that's happened lately, I guess some of us are feeling a bit 'on edge'. Sorry.

Part of me is saying, speak to the nursery staff - the other part is saying 'don't tip them off'.... sometimes I hate hate hate hate the world we live in :(

changingnamechange · 06/10/2010 00:18

BitOfFun: I had a look for them earlier and couldn't see them. I'm kicking myself.

Thank you for those who suggested beard or chest hair as I hadn't considered that...

OP posts:
booyhoo · 06/10/2010 00:18

chipping if i think how i would be in the OP's situation (please let me never be) i think i would ask exactly the same thing, either of my mum/friends or on here. probably on here first as it would be the first thing i could get to where i would get a few honest/unbiased/not connected to my child, responses quickly.

Olifin · 06/10/2010 00:46

Armpit hair?

booyhoo · 06/10/2010 17:28

hi OP. how are you today? hope you got some sleep last night and were able to deal with this today.

oneofthosedays · 06/10/2010 17:34

Sorry if this is tmi but my DH's beard and chest hair looks just like pubes, could it be this? Otherwise, if you have suspicions I really don't know what I would do in your position.

ocdgirl · 06/10/2010 17:34

do the kids use the same toilets as adults ? is it possible they were on the toilet floor and when your ds has pulled his pants down to use the loo that they have got onto his shorts ??
