What seriously??

Why? Is it for a 'cause?'

TotorosOcarina · 05/10/2010 12:18

I wouldn't be buying it.

DomesticG0ddess · 05/10/2010 12:18

Your school want you to BUY your DS's art work????? I have never heard of such a thing! That's incredible. Is it normal?

VinegarTits · 05/10/2010 12:20

No cause inparticular, just the shcool having an 'art exibition' all masterpieces £6

1234ThumbWar · 05/10/2010 12:20

We had this last year, one of the teachers told me that at the end of term/year they send it home unframed anyway. I did't buy.

VinegarTits · 05/10/2010 12:22

ive no idea if its normal, he only started reception class last month

i wont be buying it obviously

but might frame some of my own 'masterpieces' and see if they want to exhibit them for me, i'd make a fortune!

Is this a specific fund raising thing? If it isn't, then I can't see any logic in this at all. If it is for some kind of charity, I still thinks it's a bit weird tbh.

taintedpaint · 05/10/2010 12:23

Oops x-posts! Too weird.

YanknCock · 05/10/2010 12:23

YANBU

That's ridiculous.

paisleyleaf · 05/10/2010 12:24

What a cheek.

Say you'll donate it to the school - might get you out of coughing up for school funds for a while Grin

taintedpaint · 05/10/2010 12:24

Are you going to let the picture stay in the exhibition?! I'd pull it if I were you, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with them making money from my son!

VinegarTits · 05/10/2010 12:25

excellent idea Paisley Grin

VinegarTits · 05/10/2010 12:26

i dont thnk anyone else will actually buy it tainted, i imagine parents will only buy their own dc's masterpeices

although you never know, he could be the next Van Gogh and someone will spot the potential to make a mint in years to come Grin

At DCs old school they did this to fund specific projects, such as the next Arts Week, or partner school in Guyana. Might be worth checking out if it is for something you might support before dismissing. They should have told you though.

VinegarTits · 05/10/2010 12:33

I have checked, its not for any kind of project, just to raise money for the school

OP posts:
PinkElephant73 · 05/10/2010 12:35

Have the school explained why they are doing this? our school put on an "art exhibition" in the local church as a fundraiser and we could "buy" own child's work. was nice for the DCs as they could go and see their work on public display and the school made an event out of it.

but these things do need to be explained to parents (did you get a letter home?) and no decent school would throw the artwork away if you chose not to pay for it, surely.

I'm actually surprised they're allowed to do this.. Your son made it, thus it's his property.
Would be far better to display them and ask parents for a small contribution as an 'entry fee' like a real museum.

Katisha · 05/10/2010 12:52

Mind you I feel fed up at having to pay to come to piano teacher's annual concert to hear DS play piano, which I can hear every day at home for nothing...

My DH politely informed the school that the work belonged to the artist (our dd) and as such he would be paying her the £4 for her work, if they wanted to take a cut for gallery space/framing her work then they would have to take it up with her. He then removed her work from display and took it home Blush

TrillianAstra · 05/10/2010 13:40

I'll believe that it is school property, it was made with their materials on their time, but why on earth do they think you would want to buy it?

brightyoungthing · 05/10/2010 13:46

OP, you don't live in north somerset do you?

DD's school did this a couple of years ago and I did not attend or buy the art work.
Last day of school came and DD brought the masterpiece home free of charge! (Sadly not framed though)!
They did it to raise funds for the school not as a charity fund raising thing. I found it really cheeky!
