To be cross with dh for not allowing kids bedslippers in the sofa?

I've told dds that they can curl up in the sofa wearing their bedslippers which are never worn outdoors, not even in the garden.

Dh saw them with them on and told them to take them off bcos they gather dirt and dust around the house (the slippers that is).

I suppose I'd take his point if our house was immaculate and we were precious about these things but we're generally not so I don't know what's got into his head?!

tell him not to be so bloody precious - the house is the kids home aswell as his

PinkieMinx · 03/10/2010 20:40

What's a bedslipper - is it slippers you wear in bed or just slippers?

cyborg · 03/10/2010 20:40

A little bit harsh I feel

Effjay · 03/10/2010 20:41

He's being daft.

Alouiseg · 03/10/2010 20:41

Ask who died and made him God? Generally brings down pompous dh moments :o

jaffacake2 · 03/10/2010 20:42

Oh dear! He is in for a rough time when they are teens unless he chills out !!!Smile

Eglu · 03/10/2010 20:43

So are they allowed socks on the sofa if they walk around in just those? Surely it's the same thing.

maggiethecat · 03/10/2010 20:45

slippers around the house. one dd has cute snuggly minnie mouse ones and the other has some red embroidered slip on ones.

asked him if me wearing my socks around the house meant that i could not put my socked feet up in the sofa! i was so cross i can't even remember what he replied!!

just crossed with you eglu. usually he's not too bothered about these things but it was as if he became possessed with the point.

Agree your DH is being OTT, but agree with CAT64 - his house too?

What's the bet you undermined him in front of the children as well? I hope you presented a united front.

"asked him if me wearing my socks around the house meant that i could not put my socked feet up in the sofa! i was so cross i can't even remember what he replied!!"

Did you do this in front of the children to undermine him?
As others have said it's his house too so why are your rules more important.
Also you were "so cross"?WTF? you simply disagreed over-smothing. I'd wager you are the unreasonable one in this situation for reacting so poorly.

mayorquimby · 03/10/2010 21:09

*something

maggiethecat · 03/10/2010 21:16

Forgive me if my tongue was too quick in responding to dh, I'll simply bite if off next time!

OP posts:
mayorquimby · 03/10/2010 21:20

it would be of more comfort to me if you disabled your fingers instead of your tongue.

maggiethecat · 03/10/2010 21:23

since we're mutually not concerned with each other's comfort....

OP posts:
ivykaty44 · 03/10/2010 21:26

silly idea not allowing curling up on the sofa - your feet or noraml socks would also creat dust and dirt

ChippingIn · 03/10/2010 23:05

He's being a twat!

YANBU

Unless the slippers have velcro or dewn on bits that would perhaphs 'pull' the fabric - but just for regular dust etc .... needs to get a grip (the hoover handle may help him get over it?!)
