I am so mad! Just came across this

www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1317066/California-girth-Katy-Perrys-skin-tight-silver-dress-clings-wrong-places.html

Where the idiots are saying Katy Perry has a fat stomach....plus their online articles seem to be written by bitchy pre-teens with no idea about spelling, grammar or punctuation.

Rubbish like this has a bad effect on young women....why are they allowed to do it?

It's terrible they get away with crap like this.

Angry

"Protruding belly" in the 2nd photo. Where?? She looks great; slim yet curvy. It's no wonder teenage girls (and younger) are starving themselves when a practically-invisible tummy bulge is apparently headline news.

Nancy66 · 02/10/2010 13:27

DM online pretty much IS written by work experience teens.

DM Online is a showbiz site - it's all about traffic. Showbiz articles get way more clicks than news ones, showbiz articles about celebrity weight get more still...which is why there's so many of them.

NineTails20 · 02/10/2010 13:29

It's not called the 'Daily Fail' for nothing..... Grin

Anenome · 02/10/2010 13:32

Nancy...well their need to be government guidelines...for the media to follow which could ensure responsible portrayal of young men and women in showbuisness.

Fine if they take drugs or get arrested..report the truth....but don't be slamming a young woman for having a centimetre of flesh on her abdomen!

ChooksAway · 02/10/2010 13:33

It's not just the Daily Mail though is it?
All those crappy magazines (Closer, Heat, things like that) constantly show slebs non-existent chub.
I think I saw one this week saying that Colleen Rooney is PG again, because of a photo showing her with a teeny bit of a chubby tummy.

cumfy · 02/10/2010 13:33

Try reading a proper newspaper!

What did you expect from DM ?:o

pagwatch · 02/10/2010 13:37

How do so many people who loath the Daily mail and everything it stands for get to see so many of its articles?
Confused

The Daily mail is a bit shit. So is the Express and actually the Sun.And The Mirror isn't what it was. And the Guardian is pretty dull...

So I either don't read them or don't take them seriously. Or write to them. Or write to my MP.
But I tend not to link them as they probably like their articles being linked don't they?

Nancy66 · 02/10/2010 13:41

Anenome - you read it - why? Because something about the story appealed to you. Then you posted it on here - so dozens more will click on it - so up goes their traffic and up goes their ad rate.

it's not the newspaper - it's the website - two totally different things.

Anenome · 02/10/2010 14:00

Oh piffle...I never even considered that Nancy!Still....why can't Mumsnet give them a bit of hassle about it?

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 02/10/2010 14:02

why should they - fuck all to do with mumsnet

TwasEverThus · 02/10/2010 14:09

They are hinting she's preggers.

StillSquiffy · 02/10/2010 14:15

YABU

You started the 'acting irresponsibly' bit by going to the DM site in the first place. It's like blaming Mcdonalds because when you went in and found it was full of crappy food

fuschiagroan · 02/10/2010 14:17

Given that most men would probably saw off their right arm to sit next to Katy Perry, I think we can safely ignore it...

Anenome · 02/10/2010 14:44

Nancy66

Nice use of language there! If it has nothing to do with MN then what has what Next sell got to do with MN either?

It's all in the interest of girls...young ones.

StilSquiffy I'm just drawing attention to it and asking opinions....I can do that. And as for the McDonalds thing...well Michael Moore did EXACTLY that...and educated many people.

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 02/10/2010 14:49

Do you mean Morgan Spurlock?

No idea what the Next sale thing is? But I do know that the DM website is by far the most linked to site on MN - so the two clearly attract the same demigraphic.

TiggyD · 02/10/2010 15:01

The Mail criticises magazines for having models who are too perfect while simultaneously poking fun at somebody who doesn't look 100% perfect.
They also run lots of ridiculous paparazzi shots of celebrities just going about their daily life.
A little while ago they had a half page picture of an award nominee's sister filling her car with petrol!
They call for the sacking of Johnny Ross after 50 thousand complaint, then do nothing when one of their columnists, Jan Moir, gets the same.

Mind you, rubber does show off any bulges rather too easily. I'm avoiding my outfit until I shed a few pounds.

Anenome · 02/10/2010 16:10

Morgan Spurlock? No idea who that is...no...I mean Michael Moore!

When I mentioned Next I was referring to the Mumsnet Let Girls be Girls campaigan.

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 02/10/2010 16:24

what's michael moore got to do with Mcdonalds?

What's The Let Girls Be girls campaign got to do with a 25 year old woman?

Heracles · 03/10/2010 03:42

Don't read The Mail. Simple.

proudnglad · 03/10/2010 08:49

They are 'allowed' to do it because they have some 18 millions readers (website).

It's called suppy and demand.

And it is an extremely rich brand whose owners could not give a flying fuck what you or I think of them.
