AIBU?

AIBU to think this is inappropriate of DS's teacher?

DS is 8, in year 4. The class was deviding into teams for five a side. Each team had to come up with a name. DS's team couldn't decide on one so his teacher suggested "the sexy boys" Confused have had it confirmed from another childs parent that they have been told it was the treachers suggestion, not from one of the pupils.

Now I know DS is getting to an age where this sort of thing is amusing to him BUT is it just me or should his teacher be suggesting more child like names? I think it is quite inappropriate of her to come up with this name for no reason. I do not think she meant anything sinister, but syrely primary school children should be left out of sexy talk as long as possible?

A very silly choice of name. My son would have laughed but been Blush.

im sure youll get some saying worry about more important things and so on,

but i think yanbu, i wouldnt want my children saying that at 8, its not appropriate at all least of all from a teacher.

It's very weird, isn't it? Think I'd be more Hmm than outraged.

Bad judgement, however you slice it.

I am in the frame of mind that it was just a bad judgement, but would prefer the teacher to think first. Hopwever I do realise everyone says things without thinking first.

Not looking to make a big fuss, just think my little boy picks up enough questionable things from the pupils (and no doubt passes some on to others) and his teacher should be trying to discourage it. lol

not sure if I should say something or not really. Its the only odd incident we have heard of about her, so I am not overly concerned. But glad I am not the only who thinks it is a bit odd.

Is she one of them Bounty sorts who thinks sexy is an adjective that just means nice?

Makes me shudder anyway.

How odd... is that all she could come up with?!

Adair - that is exactly how I think she did it. I know quite a lot of people who do refer to their DC's as "sexy", but it doesn't sit well with me. Ii am all for each to their own, but it is not my style. I think it is one of those sort of things that some people do and others hate, in which case I think a teacher should not use it to avoid any upset. I like to use handsome, pretty, cute etc for my DCs and leave "sexy" for naughty thoughts about cap'n Jack lol

YANBU - it isn't appropriate. Even if the kids had come up with it, I would expect the teacher to suggest they chose another name! The teacher suggesting is it really out of order - I mean you are speaking to a bunch of 8 year olds - how does the thought 'sexy boys would be a good team name' even pop into your head? Confused I'd be much more tempted to suggest 'Scruffy Buggers' - which of course would also be inappropriate Grin

That's just a bit...odd. Maybe she was using it in the nice way, but how did she know that 8 year old boys would also see it that way? Surely they'd be far more likely to see the traditional meaning? I'd go and have a word personally, not complain, just point out that it isn't really an appropriate name at school, and certainly not for a teacher to suggest.

YANBU - probably just a brain fart moment but I'd mention it to teacher next time I saw her!
