to buy my DS2 a toy cleaning trolley for this birthday?

Ceebee74 · 29/09/2010 20:32

I want to buy him this for his 2nd birthday as he is totally obsessed with cleaning and is constantly bringing our dustpan and brush/mop and bucket/sweeping brush into the lounge to 'clean'. Am also thinking about buying him his own little Henry vacuum cleaner aswell.

DH is not impressed about this - not masculine enough Hmm which is very ironic when DH does all the hoovering and cleaning in our house Grin

I love it! my friends ds dresses up in his sisters tutu! they are just playing at this age roles are defined much later x

LauraNorder · 29/09/2010 20:36

I agree, brilliant present if that's what he enjoys doing. DD (20 months) would happily play with something like that as she would her brother's garage, cars and lorries.

ConnorTraceptive · 29/09/2010 20:36

YABU give him the real thing and set him to work on the house!

PotPourri · 29/09/2010 20:39

Remind DH that he loves cleaning as he likes copying his dad. Go for it, DS LOVES his trolley like thism, and his toy dyson.

Other option is indeed to go for the real thing...!

YANBU

my ds had one for christmas just after he turned two, he LOVES it, and he and dd (through diff family members) have a hoover each and its deffinatly their favourite toy.

They are having a kitchen as a joint pressie this crimbo they will be 2 and 3.

fab toys

greenlotus · 29/09/2010 20:41

YANBU, DS really loved his toy Henry hoover, it broke (after some sustained abuse I must say) and he's still pestering me for another one. Is your DH stuck in a timewarp?

Have got both my ds somethiing similar in the past and they played with it loads, but sadly the interest didn't last beyond toddlerhood!
Ignore your dh he'll get over it.

YANBU. I bought DS a toy hoover for his first birthday - clearly far too young then, I didn't really have a clue, but it is coming into its own now (he is 22 months), he absolutely loves it. I hadn't seen this cleaning trolley before and am thinking it would make a great pressie for his 2nd birthday, so thanks for the inspiration!

Imisssleeping · 29/09/2010 20:58

YABU for even asking.
My ds got a vac, washing machine and mop for his second birthday. He loves them and I didn't even think if they were the right gender.
Your DH sounds like a dinosaur.
Buy him a gun if it makes you feel better !

pjd · 29/09/2010 20:58

tried to buy it but out of stock!! Am now quite desperate for this cleaning trolley!

artydeb · 29/09/2010 21:03

YANBU I also have a cleaning obsessed DS who's definately getting this for Xmas, he has an ELC hoover that is without doubt the most played with toy in the house. Get it - he'll love it.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 29/09/2010 21:08

I was going to buy this for my DS but I was put off by reviews that it said it was flimsy and fell apart!

Ceebee74 · 29/09/2010 21:10

Pjd I have tried to buy it tonight aswell but it is out of stock in all my local Argos!! Have put in a request for them to e-mail me when they have it back in stock as I honestly can't think of a toy more suited to my DS2....I can just see him now wheeling it around the house doing his cleaning Grin Am definitely getting the Henry hoover aswell.

Btw, this was a bit tongue in cheek as, whilst DH makes comments about it not being suitable for DS2, I know he doesn't mean it and is just saying it because he feels he should Wink

Ceebee74
have you searched Amazon for similar?
like this one?

how about this one on amazon

Adair · 29/09/2010 21:22

Ohh, my ds would love that too! And yes, because he wants to be just like Daddy...

Ceebee74 · 29/09/2010 21:22

Cobblers thank you - I looked at those in Argos and they seem much better quality and will match the hoover but they only sell it in pink and I think DH's head would explode Wink

That is perfect Smile

a toy hoover was one of the first toys that ds1 asked for when he was around 2 and he (and now his little brother) still both love playing with it. We got one from ELC where it was a green/blue colour and even came with it's own clean white 'dirt' (small polystyrene balls) to hoover up - like I don't have enough dirt as it is waiting to be hoovered up as to want to add more! BlushGrin

ds1 (now 5) has also loved hoovering with the real hoover and is now a dab hand - can set him going and end up with a happy boy and a clean floor Grin - obviously this is only a treat if he is a good boy - win-win all round Grin

And last xmas when we were in the supermarket we wandered past the toys so I could casually ask what he was hoping that santa would bring him - and he dragged me back to the homes section to point out what he really wanted - a top of the range Dyson and a vax carpet cleaner... ShockGrin Needless to say santa didn't manage either of them but I'm hoping that it is a long time until he stops liking hoovering!

Rosebud05 · 29/09/2010 22:01

Two year olds LOVE this sort of stuff. My dd's favourite Christmas present was a pound shop dustpan and brush with a squirty bottle that REALLY SQUIRTED.

huddspur · 29/09/2010 23:02

YANBU buy your ds what you think he'll enjoy

Adair · 30/09/2010 20:58

Oh yes, agree with zipzap - get him working!!

We have one of these handheld vacuum things and ds happily (and efficiently) hoovers up his crumbs/playdough/whatever...

Mowiol · 30/09/2010 21:05

Absolutely get him the real thing - never too young to learn a solid work ethic you know Grin

What a great idea by Adair - wish I'd thought of that when mine were young!!

Gateau · 30/09/2010 21:32

Is it from ELC? Just today
my DS was looking through their catalogue and said he wanted it. My immediate thought was 'DH will hate that.'

AmazingBouncingFerret · 30/09/2010 21:36

ELC do one, much chunkier than that one. It's £30 though but it doesnt fall apart so easily.

Dont get me started on men moaning about their DS's having "girls toys" I always set them straight when I hear them saying that when im at work!
