to wonder why cleaners getting £7 an hour are poorly paid when babysitters working with sitters agency get £5.90 an hour and thats considered ok?

I am always Shock at how little childminders get paid - there just doesn't seem much difference between what they do and what a nanny does I know it's in their own home etc, but they're still trained, etc and still in sole charge of your child. No wonder they're like gold dust round here!

I have worked as a cleaner and worked in nurseries, breakffast and after school clubs and as a babysitter and got paid between £5 an hour and £6 an hour for all of them.

I dont know anyone that gets paid £7 for cleaning or childcare as its quite a high wage, unless they work for the council.

staranise, care in own home v. care in a CM's home is a world of difference to a busy parent. Also, group care with other people's children v. the ability to dictate how your own children are cared for is why people fork out for a nanny but not a CM.

I thought the idea was that if cms take in the number of children they are allowed, then the pay is respectable.

ANy babysitting I have ever done has been easy peasy. It was the boredom that did for me.
