To think this school dinner is not good enough?

Pizza with potato wedges, peas and corn. Followed by a chocolate flavoured biscuit.
I'm happy the kids get pizza once in a while at school but this smacks of lazy unhealthy food. Not even fruit in the pudding.
Oh and they had this a couple of weeks ago but with baked beans instead of peas and corn.
Jamie Oliver wouldn't be impressed!

But not much protein equals starving hungry (grumpy) kids by home time after a carb loaded high.
As far as I'm concerned wedges are just glorified chips - I make them so I don't have to peel the spuds

If you make them, why can't the school?

s4sophie · 28/09/2010 19:31

Mangoandlime it's not the wedges, the pizza, the frozen veg, the biscuit that I object to, it's serving them all in the same carb overloaded lazy/ overworked mum style meal.

Pizza and wedges is like lasagne and chips. Weird. And that's coming from someone who likes a chip butty Grin

It's an odd meal and tbh a bit of a crap meal but it's not really unhealthy. And I bet it's the favourite at school.

DD's nursery once served her a Birds Eye waffle with a packet based creamy sauce. That's it. So your school isn't the worst....

mixedupmartha · 28/09/2010 19:57

I think it's carb overload too. The OP is not being unreasonable - but you all seem to be enjoying shouting her down!

Keep going while you're on a roll.....

brassband · 28/09/2010 20:00

i don't think homemade pizza is lazy

MrsGravy · 28/09/2010 20:07

Erm mixedupmartha - it's called disagreeing!!

So, OP, I'm intrigued. What would be your 'ideal' meal? Or what is a typical meal in your household?

mangoandlime · 28/09/2010 20:27

I still don't see a real problem with this meal. The pizza was veg loaded and it was served with two other vegetables, though I do take your point re: carbs. It's not worth getting too worried about. Wait until your DC is at secondary school, then you may be moaning about pizza every day when it's self selection and it's what friends are having.

i am like THIS >>>>> Shock Shock Shock that so many of you think this is a good meal. lolol. it isn't, come ON now... it's bread and potatoes with a sliver of cheese and tom sauce, however veg-loaded. the corn and peas will have gone ignored, guaranteed. Grin and you all KNOW it. Grin

mixedupmartha · 01/10/2010 13:08

They just like arguing!

Maybe they all watched Jamie Oliver with that woman in the USA saying that fries counted as a vegetable on the school dinner and nodded their head...

Who does Jamie Oliver think he is?

He's BVU...

I am in the camp that doesn't get why anyone would serve wedges with pizza (two lots of carbs) or equally, chips with lasagne for example. Whilst the meal does include 2-3 of the 5-a-day, it isn't particularly balanced. Also agree with Aitch and whoever else said it that the presence of both pizza and wedges means the veg will get left. However, if it's only once in a while it's not that bad, I suppose.
