To want a choice of where to buy school uniform?

I've been told it's against the law for a school to only have one supplier when they have a compulsory uniform (something to do with competitions act?). Does anyone know if this is true? My daughter's school has changed the uniform this year which I wasn't very happy about as although I think the new style is smarter, I thought from the beginning that the jumpers were a rip off poor quality and overpriced. Well one of dd's jumpers started to unravel at the bottom after she'd worn it a couple of times and I've been waiting two weeks now for a replacement as they don't have her size in stock. Angry
If I could get one somewhere else I would. Would IBU to complain to the school about this or is this normal? I'm not sure because although as far as I know I can only get ds's sweatshirts from his school, it is an SN school and they wouldn't send a child home for not wearing it.

I would mention it to the school - They may have had other complaints and do something about changing the supplier.

We have only one supplier for our school ad it also has been changed due to lack of quality/value for money.

our school is the same, i suppose the rouble is when the school insists on a logo'd jumper it might be difficult to buy it else where - it doesnt seem fair does it!

looks here like it's just a recommendation - to make uniform available from several suppliers I mean.

and here's new guidance which also says it's up to the school governing body.

Thank Hecate, very interesting but it seems to focus more on cost than what you do if the one supplier doesn't have stock.

Furball, I think I will mention it to the school. I've already waited two weeks for a replacement jumper and I've phoned up today and they still haven't got any. Dd has one jumper but if it gets something spilt on it I won't be able to get it washed and dried overnight in this weather (horrid 100% polyester, don't think I dare tumble dry it!).

Gingernut lover, they have chosen these jumpers that have different coloured knitted edges for different houses. I've never seen them anywhere else but I suppose they might be available online or something. Will have to have a look but of course I've already paid for the unravelling one so would have to get my money back from there.

Spent £350 on uniforms for 3 children over the summer.

YANBU....

I've emailed the school anyway so we'll see if anyone else has had problems or if it's just me. Thing is, a lot of parents whose children only have a year to go weren't very happy about the uniform change but they were placated by the school saying they would buy back jumpers still in good condition. Doubt they'll be amused if they've all fallen to bits before that!
