to think that Next Courier shouldnt leave my deliver inside my brown bin

Well am I?

To make matters worse, I had smashed an empty jar of madras sauce on the drive this morning when I was walking to the bin so I just picked it up and put it in the bin, but there was bits of madras sauce on the broken glass. The bin stinks.

I hadnt put any delivery instructions on my order but they could have hid them behind the bins or put them in the shed which is unlocked.

Next couriers left a laptop computer that should have been signed for in our bin cupboard. It wasn't cheap & could very easily have been stolen. What was more irritating was that I'd taken some time off to be in when they came to deliver (and so be there to sign for it) and they never actually bothered to knock at the door.

DH complained & they refunded the delivery charge.

As dixiechick says, my Mum is a courier for Hermes, they deliver for lots of other companies to. She has a huge area to cover and gets around 75p for each parcel, sometimes huge rugs etc.

She uses her own little car and has to be self employed, also if they want hol/time off they have to arrange someone to cover the round themselves. I have done it a few times but never again! it's hard work, nobody's ever in and you are forever looking for a safe place to leave goods. Like has been said they don't get paid to come back which in my Mum's case could mean a 5 mile round trip. She has around 80-100 parcels per day, more at xmas and has a huge rural area to cover.

I have alot more sympathy for couriers these days, when I was in a terraced house and out all day I got one of those green bench storage seat things to put out front and left a small note on the door 'please leave parcels in green bench'. The note wasn't readable from the pavement and parcels were dry and clean. I think if you order online and wont be in alot of the time you need to provide a place for them to be left.

Also another problem with Next is they specify a certain day am or pm to deliver, but when you have say 5 parcels in one village and 2 elsewhere plus 10 in the town for weds am then more for village 1 for pm, well you can see how hard it is to plan a route bearing in mind they are using their own vehicles, fuel etc.

I will add though sorry but you are not being unreasonable, I dont think its acceptable to have left it in the bin. Most couriers have a bit more common sense I hope.

BornToFolk · 28/09/2010 12:30

I wasn't aware that the couriers are so poorly paid, that's shocking!
Next really need to sort out paying their couriers enough so that they can deliver properly (ie. when requested, and not left in daft places)

betsyboo · 28/09/2010 12:39

It is shocking considering how much they charge for delivery, is it £3.95 or somesuch?

charlady · 28/09/2010 12:53

It's not just couriers. Royal Mail put my birthday present in the bin once.

To make matters worse, the bin was half full of rubbish and, along with the rest of the street's bins, was clearly out for the binmen!

I wrote to complain, and got offered 6 first class stamps by way of compensation Biscuit

I had the postman once leave a parcel in my actual black dustbin. Thankfully it wasn't bin day! And had signed for things pushed through the letterbox and left while I was at work. In a way it's nice to get the things and not have to shlep to the delivery office, but it must be breaking their own internal procedures...

dixiechick1975 · 28/09/2010 14:45

Has anyone got one of those parcel safe boxes? Are they any good - thinking of investing.

They are £50 ish but you leave it open and if you get a delivery the courier or postman just pout the parcel in then lock it. They have a code on that the postman can use for signed for parcels.

Kaloki · 28/09/2010 18:14

Where I used to live the postman didn't like to wear himself out by knocking (I worked from home) and instead would either dump parcels in the recycling bin, or, in the case of some expensive computer equipment, hang it from the door handle! Hmm

Hazeydazey · 09/12/2010 09:37

I have also been looking into getting a parcel safe box.
Hippo boxes are huge and can have a unique barcode inside so courier needing a signature can scan or note down barcode no. when leaving parcel.

BUT it has HEFTY price tag of £225!(shocked)

Has anyone any experience with one of these?
