It's 14 degrees in our office this morning but they won't be switching the heating on because it's not the 1st October yet. I'm freezing

I think 14 is the cut off point then they HAVE to put it on otherwise you can refuse to work for H&S issues or request jumpers

shinyshoes · 27/09/2010 09:27

apparently its 16 degrees

Guidance says offices should be above 16 not must.

I've already got a vest and jumper on and I'm sitting in my fleece and scarf

Ooh, that's chilly. Don't know if I'd be able to cope! Take a look here, hope it helps

Dartshasbegun · 27/09/2010 10:10

Ha! It's freezing here, but the scheduled switch on is some days away, and then we'll get the usual "Oh, It's not working and will take XXX days to fix"

I've got an extra layer on today....

I'm on my third hot drink and I'm tempted to go get the fleece blanket I've got in the car to put over my legs

I had to check the laws a year or two ago as I was concerned my nursery was at 14 C most days.

-There are exemptions (for ice-cream factories etc.) They can any temp if they provide safety gear.
-In places where physical work is involved and you're always moving(warehouses?), the minimum is 13 C.
-Generally the minimum is 16 C.
-In places where people are not moving at all very much (call centres, staff work at computers etc) the minimum is 18 C.

I keep a hot water bottle at work because I can't handle being that cold.

They are BU

i worked in a hospital for 10 years and they switched the heating on for the whole building at the same time each oct and switched it off the same time each spring, didn't matter how freezing or boiling people were... today at uni in my classroom the air conditioning was on and we couldn't work out how to switch it off, it was freezing, the teacher found out it was controlled on a main circuit thing and so we had no control great...extra thick jumpers it is...

The hot water bottle is going in tomorrow.
