... (not for the faint hearted - toilet functions)

My DP and I are staying in a cottage for the week. He's using the toilet, and the flush isn't getting rid of the remains. He gives it a few flushes and it isn't going anywhere. We have a bit of a chat (I know, sounds funny, but he says don't go in there for a while, etc).

He decides to use the toilet brush to push it down, and I ask him not to. He says it's the only way to get it to work, whereas I think it'll leave the brush pretty disgusting (it's not our cottage). He decides to do it anyway, but it really upsets me, to the point that I'm in tears.

It's not a massive thing, but was I unreasonable to get upset about this?

Erm it's a toilet brush. You could just clean the brush. YABU no reason to be upset by it. What do you think he should have done?

taintedpaint · 26/09/2010 23:41

YABU, the toilet brush can be cleaned can't it?

Is this actually a serious question? I can't decide....I can't believe anyone would cry over it!

luciemule · 26/09/2010 23:42

You poor woman. That's disgusting and I hope he's chucking out the brush? Just a new one and keep it in the box until you leave, then replace and leave.

Then......make your DH complete his toilet functions in a public loo when you're out!

luciemule · 26/09/2010 23:45

I think the brush hasn't just brushed the loo - but pushed down the poo!

mumof2children · 26/09/2010 23:46

toilet brushes make my skin crawl, i don't have one in my own home.

taintedpaint · 26/09/2010 23:46

Does that make it worth crying over Lucie?

Scuttlebutter · 26/09/2010 23:52

Um, if you're crying over this, then poo is the least of your worries. You sound stressed and possibly depressed. If this is a regular occurrence, then time for a visit to the GP. Smile

MrsMadWriggle · 26/09/2010 23:56

You're crying over the use of a loo brush? Hmm

You're on holiday. Open the wine. Chill FFS

Beethoven · 26/09/2010 23:58

to be honest, I was upset because I felt he hadn't listened to my objections. Although I'm not depressed, I do think it's a general part of my character that I can get upset quite easily over minor things. 5 minutes later and everything's fine.

I think he sees it as a problem for the future if we were to have children, etc, when the stresses will be much greater

PinkieMinx · 26/09/2010 23:59

I doubt it's just about the brush [hopefull] - does he usually ignore your reasonable protestations? DH never rarely listens to mine & I always sometimes cry out of sheer frustration!

PinkieMinx · 26/09/2010 23:59

x-post oops Grin

scottishmummy · 27/09/2010 00:01

purpose of toilet brush is to batter the floaters and splatters

so you had a word about his depth charges, he used the bog brush.and this bugs you too

cant see the problem

are you usually so anal?

PinkieMinx · 27/09/2010 00:05

anal - how appropriate scot Grin

taintedpaint · 27/09/2010 00:05

He doesn't need to listen to your objections over something so trivial though, surely? It's not like he's doing something that's going to impact your lives forever is it? You need to let this go. It's just a toilet brush.

If there are other issues, talk to your DP about them. You sound stressed and if you're genuinely upset over this, there's definitely an issue there. Please don't base any conversation on a toilet brush though, he will never take you seriously.

Beethoven · 27/09/2010 00:07

I would like to point out that it's not something I'm fulminating about a week later, just upset for five minutes after the event.

I feel for you Beethoven, I really do. I don't like mess and I like to have a clean toilet. But honestly, to cry over a toilet brush?

Scuttlebutter · 27/09/2010 00:15

But you shouldn't be in tears over every minor domestic irritation. Plenty of times when I have wanted to throw entire contents of kitchen at DH, or have shed tears of rage/frustration, but only after succession of comedic/tragic domestic events.

And if it's that minor, then why are you posting about it?

Miasma · 27/09/2010 00:24

What did you expect him to to with it fish it out and put it in his pocket ?

Beethoven · 27/09/2010 09:14

I know it was unreasonable to cry over a toilet brush. I just wanted to get this off my chest a bit

My sister cried once because the sellotape kept unsticking.

Bloodymary · 27/09/2010 09:36

Have you tried tipping a bucket full of water down the loo from a great height, (while standing on a chair).
I had the same problem years ago, and it was the only way.

veyron · 27/09/2010 13:11

that is what bog brushes are for!

to clean it after all you do is throw a load of bleach down the loo then put the brush in and leave for a couple of hours.

sapphireblue · 27/09/2010 13:16

seriously? you cried because he used a toilet brush to Shock clean the toilet?

HecateQueenOfWitches · 27/09/2010 13:48

I think that life must be very difficult for you if you are so easily brought to tears and that you would probably benefit from finding a way to become less sensitive.

I am not saying that to bash you Grin but because I used to be like you (or at least as your post is coming across). so easily upset, everything so personal - an attack on me if you don't do what I want Blush - and it does not make for an easy life.

diddl · 27/09/2010 13:55

Actually, it wouldn´t make me cry, but I´d be annoyed if I suggested something & husband disregarded it.

And I wouldn´t use a toilet brush to push poo down either.
