....you should accept that you have to stand at the back?!

I've just had to leave in the middle of a church service because a lady decided to cram herself and her grandson onto a bench where there was clearly no space.

I'm 9 months pg and had to have my 7 year old niece on my lap and my 3 year old had to sit on the floor at my feet as a result (crying because she wanted to be on my lap). They were sitting quite nicely and then it just became a fucking nightmare.

Grrrrrrrr I am not feeling very holy right now!!! Angry

oh you big Christiann!! are you on your iphone bitching with a stylus while the vicar preaches? Wink

ValiumSingleton · 26/09/2010 10:50

I revealed my luddite status there.

NestaFiesta · 26/09/2010 10:51

YANBU. If you're late you sneak it quietly and try not to disturb anyone. Pregnant women need room!

moominmarvellous · 26/09/2010 10:54

Ha ha, no I didn't have the elbow room to use the keypad! Grin

If I was on my own, I'm happy to squidge up, but I couldn't move my arms and had quite a large child squishing on my belly/baby/bladder. I should have just peed my pants - that'd teach her!

YANBU-But it may be that she has so much going on she didn't think about your needs.

That said I am just as bad, what annoys me is when people sneak in to nick your seat when you get up to do a job, read collect etc, or we sit at the back so have to walk forwards to kneel to pray and I have had my seat pinched a few times!

TheProvincialLady · 26/09/2010 10:59

You should all come to my church. Plenty of room for everyone! Bring a friend or twenty!

moominmarvellous · 26/09/2010 11:03

Hmmm yes maybe, however the sympathetic looks she kept giving me about DD's wailing crying were even more irritating considering it was actually her fault she was wedged between my knees and the pew.

But you're right, she probably didn't realise until it was too late and would have caused more upheaval to get back past everyone.

Oh church will be an extra joy when I have a newborn with me as well! siiiigh

Actually we are moving a bit further out soon, I'm really hoping the church there is a bit bigger. Ours is quite small and has a funny little layout compared to the church I grew up with.

Well, I have been left with no choice but to worship another this Sunday morning.....I'm off to catch up on last nights X Factor, see what Simon Cowell has to say for himself Grin

...people go to church?

AnyFuleKno · 26/09/2010 13:46

iPhone..stylus? Valium, here is a piece of paper, please hold it to the wall with your nose while the rest of the class works sensibly Wink

giveitago · 26/09/2010 14:00

YANBU

DurhamDurham · 26/09/2010 14:03

Maybe it was a test....from above....and you failed!

Seriously though YANBU!

HecateQueenOfWitches · 26/09/2010 14:03

silly question, but why did you move?

if the 7 yr old was sitting on a seat, then they obviously moved onto your lap.

surely instead of moving you had a choice to stay put and then the person would not have been able to get in there. You created a 'space' instead of whispering "sorry, there's no room here"

Or am I totally confused? Grin

KurriKurri · 26/09/2010 14:05

Actually if people storm out shouting 'this is a fucking nightmare' I might give church a go - it sounds funGrin

Northernlurker · 26/09/2010 14:08

So you went home from church in a huff because somebody had the temerity to sit with you and in so doing caused you minor difficulties? Ok then....

MaMoTTaT · 26/09/2010 14:10

well I was late to church this morning, and I rushed in and went straight to the front Shock! Grin

JuicyLips · 26/09/2010 14:12

Yanbu. It would have annoyed me too.

MaMoTTaT · 26/09/2010 14:17

is there no sunday school/club/crech at your church?

If not - well I think you're better off finding another church anyhow Wink

brassband · 26/09/2010 18:30

What would Jesus do???

Silver1 · 26/09/2010 18:32

Brassband-good point, but not sure he would send the kids off to Sunday school for the whole service. So would have to disagree with MaMoTTat

Tippychoocks · 26/09/2010 18:58

OP, I would be pissed off too if my child had to sit on the floor. Especially as our vicar can go a good hour or so with a following wind, even at the family service.

Have to say, space isn't an issue at our church!

KurriKurri · 26/09/2010 19:21

Jesus would have taken five pews and two hassocks and made them into five thousand. And Lo the multitude would have been seated.

MaMoTTaT · 26/09/2010 19:32

well - I beg to differ - he wanted the children to be happy - not bored senseless??

bottyburpthebarbarian · 26/09/2010 19:40

my XH cousin used to be on purposely late every time she had a new outfit.

Once, the vicar actually said "XXX has arrived I can begin"

Sorry OP you had such a rotten time. Stick to your guns next time and don't budge up.
