to think logo-ed up forty-plus dads are completely cringeworthy and should be banned?

OMG, went to pick up DS2 and answering the door was his friends father: forty-something, thinning on top and head to toe in t-shirts and shorts covered in Abercrombie and Fitch wording and logos. Oh yes and looking very pleased with himself.
Even DS2 thought it was "tragic".

Should be banned shouldn't it? or aibu?

OMG Pinkie, now I have to go back to his house. The thought of him opening the door in his jeggings - I nearly wet myself.

Echt, You are absolutely right about primary aged children and fashion. I think ds recognised himself in the father at the door Grin

gtamom · 25/09/2010 07:50

40 isn't old. And if he had a shirt on, it's ok. Besides, who cares about labels, maybe his wife thinks he is a stud muffin and bought him the clothing.

PinkieMinx · 25/09/2010 07:50

Echt - only if they are spot on Grin

MollieO · 25/09/2010 07:53

Ive got a friend with a husband like that. I think it looks like a mid life crisis in clothing form. Lots of surfer brands - Ripcurl etc!

gtamom · 25/09/2010 07:58

The founder is 61 years old.
"Mike Jeffries, the 61-year-old CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, says "dude" a lot. He'll say, "What a cool idea, dude," or, when the jeans on a store's mannequin are too thin in the calves, "Let's make this dude look more like a dude," or, when I ask him why he dyes his hair blond, "Dude, I'm not an old fart who wears his jeans up at his shoulders." " www.salon.com/life/feature/2006/01/24/jeffries

gtamom · 25/09/2010 08:01

Oops, not founder, CEO. He does seem "unique" according to the article, lol.

Pan · 25/09/2010 09:15

Sounds like my kinda dude, man.

Malificence · 25/09/2010 14:05

I love DH in A and F or Hollister or Aeropostale, he looks gorgeous - most of the time it's not what you wear, it's how you wear it.Wink

Well fitting Levis, Abercrombie top and battered cowboy boots = growl.

At the Abercrombie flagship store in New York, there were a lot of older people spending a fortune ( including us).

He's definitely 40+ Smile

DD is 20 and she's not embarrassed by him wearing it so it must be ok.

emptyshell · 25/09/2010 14:44

Could be worse - my dad was the PR officer for one of the local councils and went through a very embarassing midlife crisis - we're talking Bros haircut, sheepskin jacket, jeans that would put Clarkson to shame levels... and went on local news to be interviewed repeatedly in said getup.

Tweenage me nearly died of utter shame.

Goblinchild · 25/09/2010 15:42

" but there MUST be something else worthwhile to BU about than clothes choice of someone you don't know? "

Well, how oppressive are you, Pan?
Denying an enormous number of determinedly ageless females the chance to partake in one of their favourite hobbies.

Mental image of Pan...One of my favourite gods for a while as a teenager.

Honeydragon · 25/09/2010 15:48

"How awful for a man to go bald. Shoot on sight."

Hahahaha! Am still rofl

dh - battered wranglers, shirt & crap shoes and bald. He gave up trying at 20 Grin I like that.

Janos · 25/09/2010 15:54

YANBU. Head to toe in labels looks awful whatever age you are! It's like being dressed by your mum or something.

giveitago · 25/09/2010 17:14

YABU - he's 40 something - as am I and as is dh. He doesn't wear logos - but what he does wear is not really anyone elses business.

I think ugg boots are very old fashioned and horribly label offensive but why do I care if someone wears them just because I don't like them.

And it's not because I'm 40 plus but simply because furry boots remind me of squirrels.

Leave him alone. Poor guy.

Lulumaam · 25/09/2010 17:16

you'd really despise my DH, big fan of hollister and ed hardy. he even wears jewellery ! and has a man bag ( designer labelled too! )

how lovely you judge the book by it's cover, what a great person you sound.

let's revist this when you're pushing 40, hmmmmmm?

giveitago · 25/09/2010 17:21

I'm 40 + I should just head on down to M&S and stock up on twinsets I guess.

How dare you I am 40+ and look quite trendy in my logo's
I also wear my jeans with the white crease down the middle around my backside with my ck undies showing, like the young trendy kids do
I also have white trainers with my white cotton socks and I wear my baseballcap sideways
Why should people of a certain age not be allowed to dress cool?

KaraStarbuckThrace · 26/09/2010 09:14

YABU - age is just a number.

Maybe he was looking pleased with himself because he and the missus are going to have mind blowing sex when he gets back home Grin

PinkieMinx · 26/09/2010 09:45

Right on eric - the kids do say right on still innit?

nancydrewrocked · 26/09/2010 09:58

DH - not quite 40 admittedly wears Superdry/A&F and even JW sometimes and he looks fit Smile

What do you suggest as an alternative? Nylon mix crew necks from M&S?

AnnoyingOrange · 26/09/2010 10:07

hmm have just looked at the A&F website - the clothes look quite ordinary to me:- jeans, Tshirts, plaid shirts

Malificence · 26/09/2010 12:58

They are fairly ordinary, but fabulous quality, I noticed in Matalan this morning that they are ripping off the more famous Abercrombie designs, the difference in quality is marked.

AnnoyingOrange · 26/09/2010 15:20

I don't get what's wrong with forty-something dads wearing "fairly ordinary, fabulous quality" clothes? Confused

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me

PinkieMinx · 26/09/2010 23:52

It does depend on the Dad - George Clooney and Boris Johnson are similar ages - I rest my case Grin

squashimodo · 27/09/2010 01:09

Oh, you are definately no being unreasonable. I hate seeing mature men in logos, middle-aged crisis in the making...
