It's what I did for my wedding, and to top it off it happened to coincide with St Patrick's day so most people drank Guiness

gtamom · 24/09/2010 11:18

That's what we did, not a pub, but a nice restaurant for lunch. There were only 12 of us. Then dh & I went away for a few nights.

Sounds like a lot of fun. One of the best weddings I ever went to was at a registry office, then lunch for everyone at a nearby restaurant.

fryalot · 24/09/2010 11:20

If it's what you both want, it's a fab way to celebrate your special day.

The wedding isn't important, at the end of the day it's the marriage that matters.

Good luck, and congrats in advance Grin

a huge wedding in a grand palace (whats the point to look like you live there??) is my idea of hell. Id marry at a registery office, plant a tree to mark our married life and then hire a boat along the river.

Hullygully · 24/09/2010 12:04

As long as you wear a meringue

conkie · 24/09/2010 12:22

That is exactly how my wedding went. Very small in a register office and then down to the local which was very close to where we lived at the time. I was pregnant though so didn't want a big do. Oh, and I didn't get married because I was pregnant. It just happened that way lol

I agree with OP. I know its no-ones business as to how other people send their money but I know loads of people that spent £20k plus when that is all they earn in a year! It's 12 hours of your life for God's sake!

Miasma · 24/09/2010 12:50

Sounds great :)

we did something similar.

Quenelle · 24/09/2010 13:04

Sounds perfect. And keeping it simple means less can go wrong, less pre-event stress.

Your guests'll thank you for inviting them to a do with affordable drink too.
