Who the Hell complains to Watchdog because their Tesco bag is too thin - that's because you're meant to take one with you these days! Okay forget to sometimes and have to take some - but don't write in to bleedin' watchdog!

More sympathy for the home owners though, nightmare stuff.

It'll be an old biddy with nothing better to do with themselves.

CardyMow · 23/09/2010 20:51

I didn't write in, but popped into tescos 2 weeks ago for some milk, (a 4-pinter), picked up the bag...milk dropped on my toe , through the bag, and broke my toe. If you can't even put milk in the f'ing bag, they're a bit pointless, aren't they??!! And, no, I didn't complain to tescos, should have taken a bag, but only remembered when already out that I needed more milk. Toe bloody hurts though.

Our local Tesco double bag anything heavier than a sandwich and a bag of crisps - i guess they've had similar problems.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 23/09/2010 20:57

Sainsburys bags are just as bad. They get huge holes in them as soon as the food has been put in.

poppymouse · 23/09/2010 20:57

Okay, maybe they are properly crap. I was surprised Watchdog didn't seem to make any reference to the fact that you'd be better to take your own. I am quite an eco warrior but I too have been caught out if it is not the "proper" shop so I know it can happen even you try to be responsible. I lived in Russia for a while and you never got a bag for free so you just got used to always taking some.

I've complained instore about the state of carrier bags. I use them as I reuse them at home for things like cat litter, wet swimming wear etc but the supermarkets were getting silly.I have a 150ft walk over a green from my car to my front step and lost count the amount of times a bag split carrying just 2 cans of beans or similar. Then you cant reuse them at all, so even worse IMO than the thicker ones.

Morrisons have brought back in their thicker carriers because of customer feedback

AnnoyingOrange · 23/09/2010 21:01

or you can buy a bag for life for the princely sum of 9p with your shopping

southeastastra · 23/09/2010 21:02

they start to biodegrade before you even get out of the shop!

onepieceoflollipop · 23/09/2010 21:02

Loudlass did the 4 pint carton have a handle? I rarely put big heavy things like that in a bag tbh. things like large boxes of washing powder, 4 or 6 pint cartons of milk, bumper packs of loo rolls/nappies etc. Most seem to have some sort of handle now. (probably to discourage us further from using bags)

Hope your toe is better soon.

I used a tesco bag as a bin liner recently, sure enough within a very few weeks it had kind of started to look moth eaten.

southeastastra · 23/09/2010 21:02

i have bags for life stuffed in my cupboard but never remember to take them out! (apart from big weekly shop where I always remember them)

smokinaces · 23/09/2010 21:03

I have bags for life, about 20 of them. I dont reuse them for my shopping as I need carriers at home, often forget them - and am in danger of overloading them (they're so big I cant help myself putting about 24pts of milk in and then cant get the bag to the house!)
