To be annoyed at children STANDING in shopping trolleys?

They've been walking through the not-so-clean streets, traipsing through dog-sh1t, snotters, dried in urine etc etc and then they stand in a trolley where we have to put our food?

Then we get home and put our food into the fridge or our kitchen shelves.

At least you are building up immunity to something or other.....

Tee2072 · 22/09/2010 06:25

Oh FFS. Like your food doesn't leak into the bottom. Like those trolleys don't sit out in the weather and get shit on by birds etc.

Trolleys are hardly sanitary even if children don't stand in them.

ben5 · 22/09/2010 06:29

just think of all the dirty hands that have touched the apples, bananas etc before you put them in your trolley! my kids have often sat in the trolley and once slept while i got the few things i needed!

Safety reasons probably trump sanitary concerns when it comes to kids in trolleys. Especially when it's quite a large child standing up or clinging onto the side... trolleys not exactly the last word in four-wheeled stability!

salizchap · 22/09/2010 07:13

Never really thought about the whole sanitation issue tbh. I´m with chil1234 on this one. I would be more concerned about the safety.

ninamag · 22/09/2010 07:20

I used to work at a well known supermarket. It had rats in the warehouse running all over the food. I am sure if people knew that they wouldn't buy the food. I also dealt with insurance claims there were loads for kids failing out of trolleys. I would be worried about the safety side.

bruffin · 22/09/2010 07:27

Definitely the safety issue,Do know a child who ended up with concussion from falling out of it. But you will get a raft of people coming on here telling you how the only enjoyment their poor little darlings get is from getting to sit in the basket of the trolley when they shop. They are just plain lazy parents who can't be bothered to keep their children in order while they shop.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 22/09/2010 07:29

I would be more concerned about the safety aspect, mainly because i fell out of a Trolley while standing in it and had to have my head glued back together.

borderslass · 22/09/2010 07:32

More worried about safety as DS fell out of a trolley in B&q at 15 months [DD2 was a newborn in a sling and I couldn't get him in the seat]I had hold of him until checkout and let go to pay.

nikki1978 · 22/09/2010 07:39

If you are so worried about cleanliness why don't you cover your trolley with carrier bags before you start shopping Hmm Seriously you have no idea what has happened to that trolley even if kids hadn't stood on it.

I have let one of my kids sit in the main bit of the trolley before. I don't let them stand but I don't see sitting being a problem. I don't think this makes me 'lazy' though Hmm

Maybve supermarkets could think a bit more about people who have more than one child....

2shoes · 22/09/2010 07:42

yanbu
I have never understood it, (yes even with all the threads about it on mn) imagine the trolly tipping over

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 22/09/2010 07:43

My name is Libra, I am a LAZY parent.

LOL.

I always managed in the actual supermarkets and I had 3 4 and under was just the one occasion I had trouble.
We didn't even have baby seats or straps on the trolleys when the kids where little.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 22/09/2010 08:01

With all the packaging on most food, I don't think its an issue from a sanitation angle. Would be more worried about kid falling out if standing up. When I had two small ones, I am sure I once or twice had one sit in the sitting bit and one sit in the main

Biscuit on the hygiene bit, there's far worse out there. But as for safety I've also seen a trolley tip and it wasn't nice.

Large toddler inside was vvv upset and rather squished by the shopping after his much older brother climbed on the side to get in and hauled it over.

nikkershaw · 22/09/2010 08:48

i hate it too, get your lazy arsed children to walk

nikkershaw · 22/09/2010 08:49

and so what if their really dirty anyway, don't want your kids making them even more dirty

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 22/09/2010 09:05

"Maybve supermarkets could think a bit more about people who have more than one child..."

At last count you can get 4 children into a trolley quite comfortable, if you can't then just feed them less....

And when I were a lass there were no trolley seats at all my parents had to drag me around in a cardboard box...

I love these threads.

Trubert · 22/09/2010 09:13

I love them too.

'The strategies I use for my children when shopping work for me, so obviously they will work for everyone. Anyone who uses different strategies to me is clearly lazy/stupid/useless.'
