to expect school shoes to last more than 3 weeks?!

Last September I bought DS Clarkes, by October they were falling apart.

I ended up just buying him cheap shoes throughout the year because I could not justify £35 on a pair of shoes that lasts the same amount of time as an £8 pair from Asda.

This septemeber I decided to try 'Next' shoes.

They were £27 (x2 Dss) and they are both fraying at the seams but DS1s are literally falling apart at the toe again Hmm

Surely SOMEBODY can make a pair of shoes that can last longer than a month?!

Does he play football in them?

My DS' record is first day of term with the sole hanging off!(cheap buy from ebay Blush)

If they are adult sizes, then Magnum work boots are the best.

I returned DSs startrite shoes this weekend after 2 weeks at school - they were coming apart at the seams!!!! Have to say my local independent shoe shop were very understanding!!

TotorosOcarina · 21/09/2010 18:33

No, no footmball, he has trainers for that in his bag for games/PE.

I know he is a lively 5 year old but shouldn't retailers take that into account whilst making them?!

£54 is a huggge amount to us and I thought we were buying him good shoes to last the winter

I do spend a lot on shoes for DS - £54 for boots that are Gortex lined nad therefore waterproof. I bought one pair last Sept, and they have been worn almost constantly apart from crocs or sandals in the summer, and only last Saturday did I replace them.

I think that £54 for the whole year isn't too bad. Yes his feet could grow, but because they are boots they are fitted bigger than shoes would be.

Ye Gods - a month? That's ruddy horrific! Am I idealistic - first DC due in 9 weeks - would expect shoes to last longer!!

Check out http://www.johnantell.co.uk/SOGA1979.htm which will detail the basics of the relevant Sale of Goods Act legislation that deals with goods being fit for a reasonable amount of time.

Good luck Grin

I agree, my ds only started school this September and last friday he accidently came home in his 'indoor shoes'. When I saw them (had been at work so a friend picked him up) I couldn't believe the state of them, his toes are almost peeking through. They weren't expensive but bloody hell they didn't start school till the Tuesday so he'd only worn them 9 times. Don't know what to do now, don't want to spend a fortune on more if they are going to wear out so quickly...

'No, no footmball, he has trainers for that in his bag for games/PE'

Does he change into these at break time?

Tortoise · 21/09/2010 21:29

My DD1's have broken in 2 weeks. They were £18 in Brantano so not expensive but not really cheap either! The sole has split in half. They will have to last this week and next until i have money to get a new pair. Just hoping for dry weather. I don't know whether to buy more expensive shoes and hope they last better or just go cheap!

nannyl · 21/09/2010 21:31

yanbu

i suggest you return them and demand a refund

Silver1 · 21/09/2010 21:33

I would never buy shoes from Next, I took one pair back four times, and another pair back twice. They seem to expect you to have a problem and just hand over a new pair (if you have lost the receipt) or a refund.

nancy75 · 21/09/2010 21:35

take them back, a couple of weeks is not a reasonable amount of time for them to last.

vbusymum1 · 21/09/2010 21:53

Get straight back to Next tomorrow, you'll have no trouble with exchanging them for a new pair. I've had this problem with two different shops this year and last and neither passed any comment when I took the shoes back to be changed.

I've had a couple of pairs of shoes from Next for myself and actually they've really lasted well. I've been very pleasantly surprised with them so you may have just had a duff pair.

QueenStromba · 21/09/2010 21:53

Yup. Take them back. If I had a pair of shoes fall apart within 2 months I would have no qualms taking them back.

Tryharder · 21/09/2010 22:01

Take them back. I have just returned a pair of Clarkes shoes that my mum bought for my DS1 in the summer holidays. The sole was literally hanging off. I didnt have the receipt or anything but they exchanged them no questions asked.

I recommend Geox shoe actually, my DCs have had several pairs and they've been great. My son had one pair for neqarly a year - wore them every day utnil they were too small and they've still got loads of life left them in them.
