pointy bum?
just how closely are you looking at this thing

arsesandoldlace · 21/09/2010 17:06

I can probably get that spider ID'd for you if you make your profile public, droves.

arsesandoldlace · 21/09/2010 17:09

Ok looks like a Salticidae spider - jumping spider.

Not harmful, native to UK and really pretty cute!

wonka · 21/09/2010 17:10

LOL Aries.. wonder what is was and what distruction it has caused.. Maybe that's what killed off all the bees??

megapixels · 21/09/2010 17:11

Saw on FB that someone had huge caterpillars in their veg from sainsburys. And someone else had posted underneath that they recently found a big slug in their Asda grapes. Yeuch, I'd just die.

wonka · 21/09/2010 17:12

CUTE!!! are you opening the same link you sent~??

arsesandoldlace · 21/09/2010 17:14

Yes, they're gorgeous! Big puppy dog eyes. Grin

Sillyness · 21/09/2010 17:17

I HATE spiders, but I agree...kill the spider and wash the grapes...

droves · 21/09/2010 17:19

Oh dear! might be kinder to sling it in the garden.

Rollmops · 21/09/2010 20:21

Around Rollmops' towers, the spiders are widely known as 'Splats!'. For a good and sensible reason.
Evil evil evil things.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 21/09/2010 23:06

JUMPING SPIDER???!!!!!!!!!!!
Native to the uk??!?????!!!

Rollmops · 21/09/2010 23:25

Around here, the beasties break world records in high and long jump Shock
Ever since moved to this idyllic leafy village, have heard locals talk, in hushed tones, about 'them' and how one must shut all doors/windows/blow-holes as soon as nights get chilly.
Had a bit of a chuckle, as being a tres' seasoned expat and used to them SE Asian crawlies, (that have been mistaken for rats in the dark)and disregarded the paranoia.... until yesterday.
The buggers were easily 12 cm in diameter with muscular, slightly hairy legs and evil grins.
BagpussGrin, is there tickets left to Antartica?
[wails in desperation]

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 21/09/2010 23:42

There was a whopper in my friends mobile home yesterday! About that size. It was right avove the door ao we couldn't leave. In the end I stood on the sofa with a really long stick and poked it, and when it fell, she batted it out of the door with a book! We were both screaming like girls! If it had jumped, I might have died!!!!

serin · 21/09/2010 23:53

You can borrow my cat she eats them!

Quite horric to watch but cheaper than IAMS

One just waltzed through my kitchen and is currently residing under the range! In desperation, I can muster a proper warrior spirit and splat! them with something deadly; however, don't know how to lure 'IT' out, and out it must come or there will be no more cooking done by yours truly.
Imagine it casing out your toes, getting ready to pounce....
Help, anyone.... DH is away on biz trip...

You need to stop this now. I was reading this thread and chuckling to myself, as I?m not scared of spiders, then walked into the kitchen to get some wine healthy snacks, and a spider the same size as my fist ran across the floor in front of me. I?m still not scared of spiders, but the collective power of MN talk is now conjuring up actual living things.

Rollmops · 22/09/2010 21:00

I've heard igloos are rather lovely this time of year....
However, there are spiders even in Antartica [hopless emoticon]

ShowOfHands · 22/09/2010 21:02

We have a big one in the bathroom. He's brown, about the size of my fist, v hairy and he's quite wise looking. He's such a jumper. He climbs onto the towels while you're having a bath and then jumps at your chest when you stand up. That's how I know he's a he.

Seriously, he's jumped from the wall onto me and dh in the last couple of days. And the other day I found dd chortling with joy as he'd jumped onto her head.

droves · 23/09/2010 11:01

im not scared of spiders , but a wee tip for anyone who is .... get the hoover to it , just suck it up ...crevice tools are great for it.(its what dh does , i usually just pick them up , except if i think they are poisonous grape lurking ones !!!!)

The grape spider is still here in jar ! am going to drop it on the neighbour from hell when he sticks his head out of the downstairs window ! .Grin
