to not want to hear that I have turned into my mother?

My wonderful mum and I were looking at some photos of us together which were taken at a recent family picnic when she observed, with great pride, that we were like 'two peas in a pod'. By which she mean short, fat curvy and wearing the latest fashions from M&S.

She was delighted. I was horrified because I can see exactly what she means. Shock

Now don't get me wrong, my mother is without exception, the nicest person I know. If someone pointed out that I shared her sweet nature I would be immensely flattered. But I don't. Instead I seem to share her slow metabolism and conservative dress sense.

But she's 72! And I'm only 38!

So am I being unreasonable to mind? Should I get myself down to the gym, cut the chocolate and invest in a new wardrobe? Or is the old cliche of turning into one's mother a self-fulfilling prophecy?!

Oscar Wilde said something apt about all women turning into their mothers.... Spend all your life thinking you are something truly unique and turns out it's a waste of bloody time. :)

YANBU - like you say, if it was her sweet nature it'd be a different story.

Yes, I'd go to the gym and have a makeover! Because, like you say, you are 38.

Get thee to a gym! Then treat yourself to a lovely new wardrobe. You're only 38, you can have it all sorted by the time you're 39.

ah but does your mum look nearer 38 or do you resemble 72? if its the former you should feel flattered Smile, if the latter...

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
I am my mother after all!

I know exactly where you are coming from, except my mother now buys the same fleeces and jeans as me. I'd rather be like my Ma than my mil though....

My Mum's more fashionable/well dressed than me by far Envy
