As I was taking dd2 to (yet another) hospital appointment, struggling with the wheelchair, the baggage, this whole life.

I thought I was safe and legally parked.

They obviously thought otherwise.

Grrr.

Which hospital was it? You are allowed to park eg in residents parking with a blue badge except in certain areas of London which are not always remotely adequately signed.

Tickets get issued but will be cancelled onappeal, its just that the traffic warden ca't use any discretion when it comes to tickets (otherwise they'd be beaten up etc).

Can you give more facts about where you were/ what sort of parking it was?

It was a marked bay with a single yellow with some parking times and loading at other times.

I thought I could park on single yellows for up to 3 hours.

Maybe I should appeal.

Any tips?

Theoretically you are allowed to park on a single yellow line indefinitely and a double yellow, where there are no loading lines on the kerb, for a maximum of 3 hours. You should have been ok. I suspect the key is the loading and parking times displayed on the sign. I would challenge though.

Appeal - always appeal.

Explain very politely explaining your extenuating circumstances and, often with hospital appointment, they cancel them.

I had a ticket cancelled which DH got while I was giving birth!

If the reject it, take it to the parking ombudsmen.

Hopefully the council will give up.

Even it's a private company issuing the ticket, don't pay it. They have no legal way to get the money from you (can't appoint bailiffs etc).

Definitely appeal.....my Blue Badge holding friend has too often had tickets that were wrongly issued.....traffic wardens didn't properly understand the rules & he has got let off every time, so very likely you will too.

We also got caught on a speed camera right outside the hospital rushing a very sick DD to A&E Hmm & DH was sent a fine & points etc......... he was let off after, all we need was a letter from the hospital proving thats why we were in A&E
so chances are they are trying it on, & you will be let off....appeal
