...to reception children is to line them all up nd throw food at them in the hope that some will get into their mouths!! I only say that because dd has been incredibly spotless (esp if you know her!) for first two weeks of reception and came home plastered in food after first school lunch today! She loved it though, and fancies another one tomorrow.

I always take it as a good sign if my DD comes home spattered in spaghetti sauce! I know then that she's really got into what she was given! If she's clean then I know they were given her worst lunch....corned beef hash! [blech emoticon]

I always knew what my DS had had for lunch by looking at his jumper Grin

Would someone be so kind as to explain this school lunch thing to me please. I have seen a program on tv with Jamie Oliver about school lunches and still dont get the whole thing - do you have to pay? If so, how much do you pay per day? Do all your schools cook hot lunches for the children? Is it compulsory that the children have the school lunch?

The closest thing we have (I'm in Oz) is a canteen where the kids can buy junkfood lunch. My girls get $5 every Friday to do so. Monday to Thursday they pack their lunch and take it with them.

baked potato with beans and cheese yesterday, sausages today. Of course there was salmon and broccoli bake on the menu too today, but despite my best efforts (brain food etc) chose saausages! I think ours are okay and happy for her to go with it for a while. Underbought the school uniform though!!

ours (primary) doesn't give them a choice but they give you the menus in advance so parents of fussy kids can opt out for the day if they want, and send a pack up.

They sit down and eat properly on proper plates with proper cutlery right from reception, with help from teachers and older children if needed.

DD used to come home with her sweatshirts covered in food so she needed a clean one every day; I had bought loads of school shirts, socks etc but it turned out to be the sweatshirts that were making me do washing every few of days.
Fortunately one year on she is now capable of eating without getting it everywhere.

Yes, the cutlery thing good with ours too. dd can already but will get away with not if she can.
