to think this is bloody rude!

Two guys just drove up to my house and literally through a parcel at my door in the porch! First I knew of their arrival was the massive thud at the front of the house! They could have broken the bloody glass!
when I opened the door one of the guys gave me the finger (he was standing half way up the driveway at this point) started to make for the door but thought better of it when my -rather large- dog appeared next to me barking his head off at the noise. At this point he swore at me again before driving off with his mate.
I'm guessing that this is not normal postal service and this meant that my parcel had been delivered to their house by mistake but:

a) It needed signing for, how the hell did they not manage to spot it was not for them

b) As annoying as it is when you get mail addressed to someone else it is not like I purposely told them to deliver it to someone else! It has my (correct) name and address on it so its hardly my fault! They wouldn't have been able to find me if it hadn't now would they?!

c) They could of dropped it round nicely (have no idea who they are so dunno how far astray this had gone), or put it back in a postbox, or binned it if they really didn't want to deal with it (not that I agree with doing that). Is there any particular need to try to intimidate people?

Mail does get delivered to the wrong houses around here on a fairly regular basis unfortunately but I generally just drop it off at the correct house (If the address is on my street) or put it back in the post box next time I walk past it. Isn't that the common sense thing to do? Even if you were pissed off about it surely you should be pissed off at the postman for delivering to the wrong address rather than the intended recipients?!

Grrrr! Just shook me up a bit I guess because a 19 year old female against 2 massive guys is not the best odds in the world, and I'm alone in the house tonight. Very glad of the dogs presence ATM!

blimey, poor you, are you ok?

cupcakesandbunting · 20/09/2010 21:29

I'm so sorry but that just made me laugh. It's so unnecessary that it's funny.

Sorry.

It's very rude and I hope you're OK.

musicmadness · 20/09/2010 21:31

yeah I'm fine. Just a bit annoyed that whoever they are they know my full name and address. At least the dog seemed to scare them off. He does sound quite vicious when he barks (he's not). Very glad he is here at the moment!

YANBU what a strange thing to do - why even bring the parcel round if they felt that strongly?!

cupcakesandbunting · 20/09/2010 21:40

They won't do anything. Having to drop a parcel off is enough motivation to make someone very unreasonable flip the birdie but they'd have to be a complete loony tune for it to warrant them doing anything else.

musicmadness · 20/09/2010 21:46

Nah I know they won't do anything, I just don't get why they dropped it off at all if they were that ticked off? Just made me a bit nervous when I first opened the door (I had no idea what had made the noise at that point), its not a nice area and he was a hell of a lot bigger than me! The fact that he made for the door as soon as I opened it until the dog appeared didn't help. He did stop dead in his tracks and promptly turned round once he saw the dog though. LOL.

YADNBU.
I have, for about 5 years, every year received a neighbour up the roads car insurance letters. I've even phoned the companies involved.

I finally found the addressee and now we drop them up to them (got one today actually), but I can't see why they can't sort it out...they are African, so maybe their accent is causing the confusion with the huse number...they are 10 numbers up from me. I do find it annoying, but I wouldn't be rude about it.

nagoo · 20/09/2010 21:57

That seems like a really truly strange thing to do OP.

I hope it was something good in your parcel (and unbreakable)

musicmadness · 20/09/2010 22:10

It was unbreakable Wink. But only a couple of books. Nothing brilliantly exciting. I just don't get how it happened in the first place, the parcel has the correct address on it (I checked before opening it) and it says on the front that a signature was required. Surely you check what something is before signing for it?!

Parcels of mine keep getting delivered to another house with the same number and similar street name (same first word, but then different street/road/avenue ending) half a mile away. It's always Home Delivery Network, the parcels are usually meant to be signed for, but they actually just leave them in the porch of the other address (it's flats rather than one house). Luckily the nice people there usually bring them round, or if I know something is missing, I go and check. So the blokes may not actually have signed for it. Doesn't excuse the chucking or hand signals though.

ChunkiMonki · 20/09/2010 22:31

OP can't believe anyone would do that. Like you said, if they are so pissed off about it I'd rather they bin my books than come to my house and intimidate me.

Agree with what someone else said though, just because its meant to be signed for doesn't mean it has been. My postman never gets me to sign for anything, just shoves it through the letterbox regardless.

Once I came home as he was struggling to shove 2 DVDs in Amazon packaging through the door (it disn't need a signature but clearly didn't fit) and as I took the parcel from him he said 'oh I'm glad you came home, I was about to open it I can tell its a book or DVD and it'd fit through without the packaging' I was speechless! Good job I don't buy anything I don't mind others seeing isn't it!

musicmadness · 20/09/2010 22:45

Maybe I've just been a bit lucky that 95% of the time they don't leave the parcel if it requires a signature. I've had to make several trips to the depo before to pick up things that required signatures when I wasn't home. Didn't realise some of them were so bad at that.

Shock at the postman being about to open you package! I can think of a couple of items i've ordered before where that really wouldn't have been appropriate! I reckon the postman would be more embarrassed than me though Grin
