It's done in universities now generally, just googles nurse course and your closest uni

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 20/09/2010 18:38

Look up the university you wish to go to, they will tell you about the course and the qualifications they require. The NHS bursary unit (google it) will be able to tell you about funding. You apply for the university course through UCAS, the same way as any other uni course. What else would you like to know? Smile

It's all degree now.

BootyMum · 20/09/2010 21:50

Are you really sure you want to study nursing? Seriously underpaid and hard work! Perhaps do some work experience first and see if this is really the right career for you. If it is, best of luck with your studies!

Theincrediblesulk1 · 21/09/2010 11:49

Hello Bootymum,

I am well aware of the work. And i will be shouted at by patents, and most of the time i will be covered in poop or vomit. I want to eventually work as a midwife. Yeah i am sure. Thought about it for the past 5 years now.

Theincrediblesulk, do you have a previous degree? If so you could apply for graduate entry nursing which is shorter and the bursary is better.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 21/09/2010 12:04

The incredible, if your ultimate aim is midwifery, you should apply directly for that.

Theincrediblesulk1 · 21/09/2010 12:04

No i don't unfortunately, i am hoping to do it via the diploma, they are not being phased out until 2013. Then i can do the degree after.

Theincredible, I have to agree with kreecher. I would not advise the nursing route if what you really want to be is a midwife. There is constant talk of the post-nursing conversion course being phased out, as direct entry midwifery becomes the norm. (Of course the uni you'd like to go to may say something different so it's worth checking with them.) Is there a reason you're thinking of nursing first?

Theincrediblesulk1 · 23/09/2010 13:17

where i am the nursing is done fist, then you can choose where to go from there.
