New York Fashion week this week - hence loads in the media about the whole using "plus size" models issue (rather than emaciated rakes).

Am I missing something here or is the very fact that they continue to be called "plus size" (which I think starts at a size 12 Hmm ) just fuel the distinction between the two "types" even further?

Can't we just have "models" who look great in wonderful clothes whatever weight, body shape, or disability they have?

AIBU to wonder why we are still discussing the size issue in such an overly PC society? I didn't realise until recently that most high end designers don't do clothes over about a 12 Hmm.

Surely the average british woman is about a size 14?

I have recently lost a lot of weight due to illness and at 5'7 am finding a size 8 is loose on me (I am trying to put weight back on)and have been pretty shocked at how many people (unware of the reason why) have commented on how "great" I look, when I clearly need to put on a good half a stone Hmm.

Totally agree, pisses me right off. Hope your feeling better ladyanonymous

size 12 as a plus size is ridiculous

although I do think clothes modelled on very large size models don't look great eg when beth dito did stuff for evans

now if they could do a short and fat fashion show that would be good Grin

ggirl Grin. I always wonder why shops don't call a spade a spade and do a "short and fat range" or should it be "petite yet porky".... (I am short and fat btw).

US or UK 12?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 20/09/2010 16:34

Actualyl it doesn't really make a difference to the point anyway.

Ladyanonymous · 20/09/2010 17:54

I tried on a pair of VB jeans size 8 - th ey are in US sizes but you'd think seeing as she is British they would be in UK sizing - they were bloody tiny!!!

TotalChaos - the first shop to launch a 'Disproportionately Giant Arse' range would be guaranteed my custom, sick of jeans that fall off, and dresses with room to carry a week's shopping in the bust...!

Ladyanonymous · 20/09/2010 18:12

Ah now I have the opposite problem with the bust - I am slim but am a double D cup and always end up having to buy a size 12 to fit my boobs in when I could've done with an 8 with a more generous compartment for the bust area Grin
