To cut or not to cut?

My friend and her DH have both told me in no uncertain terms that it borders on 'child abuse' to not cut my DS's hair!Pic available for short time on my profile. AIBU to only have trimmed his hair so far, he is barely 2 and will he be ridiculed when he starts nursery if I don't cut it short?
When is the right time? Will I ever be able to do it?

He looks so adorable - don't cut it yet, wait as long as possible. I cut my son's at that age and it was just like your ds, sooo cute and I regretted it, wish I had kept it long for a while longer. It did get messy at nursery though and he got nits Sad so i gave in to pressure.

Bast · 20/09/2010 17:02

Do what you want with your son's hair. Mine had a Mohie - no ridicule as of yet (and he's under two).

gtamom · 20/09/2010 17:09

"Bordering on abuse"? They are bordering on something, but not sure what!
He is gorgeous! I like long hair if it is nice hair, and his is.
If you do decide to cut, please don't chop it all off. Here are a couple of cute long hair cuts for boys with curls. boys-haircuts.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/curly-204x300.jpg

Ignore them he is your son after all hae his hair however you and him want it its your choice it is lovely :)

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 20/09/2010 17:12

Ignore them. It's nonsense. It looks lovely. He looks like a boy (I know many little boys with similar length hair). He's got a whole lifetime to have his hair short - make the most of it now.

madhairday · 20/09/2010 17:12

He's just gorgeous

don't listen to them, hardly comes under terms of abuse does it.

My ds won't let me cut his hair so I've given up on it :)

musicmadness · 20/09/2010 17:14

He looks nice. My cousin had hair like that when he was young, and he loved it. He got it cut short when he was about 5 but that was only because he asked to have it cut. As long as your DS is happy, leave him be.

zachsmama · 20/09/2010 17:15

Ignore your friends. I think his hair is lovely. If you like it and he likes it, then keep it :)

Marjee · 20/09/2010 18:19

Ignore them his hair is lovely Smile

Denny185 · 20/09/2010 18:21

Bollocks to them he looks lovely. Plenty of men would love his locks!

lanismum · 20/09/2010 18:30

No dont cut it its lovely! Lots of boys at our nursery and school have similar hair, my ds has longish hair, he is only 15 months, but your ds's hair is what I am aiming for!

salizchap · 20/09/2010 18:38

He is gorgeous. It's entirely up to you, ignore your friend.

My DS's favourite colour was pink when he was at nursery. Kids at that age aren't constrained by our adultie preconceptions. He won't get bullied. If he wants to have it shorter when he's older, cut it for him then.

3isthemagicnumber · 20/09/2010 18:46

He has exactly the same hair as my DS3 and for that reason alone i say it is fab, they are bonkers and you should keep it long
(gavel)

( wont mention DS2 who also had nearly exactly the same style, though slightly longer and with more curls , who at the age of 4 said " Mummy, when I am bigger can I have a boys haircut?".Cue trip to hairdressers where it was duly cut, but not short- think Liam Gallagher stylee and he has loved it ever since...)

justwaitaminute · 20/09/2010 18:56

Ignore them his hair is lovely, if my sons hair grew down instead of outwards I'd have his like that

It's not that long! And he's lovely. It's a tiny bit longer/thicker than my nephew's hair who is a similar age. They look adorable. Leave it be.

Huskyflodynamo · 20/09/2010 19:09

He is gorgeous!

kidsncatsnwine · 20/09/2010 19:15

Lots of little boys have long hair at nursery... if you love it, leave it. My older son caught nits as often as his long haired sisters did.. the length made no difference.

I think his hair looks lovely!

(Mind you these days I have two long haired sons, one of whom has a massive blonde afro so I am biassed..I much prefer boys with long hair!)

orienteerer · 20/09/2010 19:19

Please cut it.

Anenome · 20/09/2010 19:28

YANBU! It's much more common for little boys to have longer hair these days...if HE likes it then fine...if he doesn't..then chop it off.

Loads of little boys where I live have long hair....they're cool looking and fashionably dressed...nt up to anyone else. If other people are uncomfortable with you shunning the percieved norm then bugge them!

Habbibu · 20/09/2010 19:31

He's lovely, and his hair is great. And will the sky fall in if he ever gets mistaken for a girl - what exactly would happen? And as if 2/3/4 yos even notice. Jeez.

whatkatydidathome · 20/09/2010 19:38

ds2 son is five and still uncut (he is very curly though). I trim the fringe so that he can see out and have cut the odd tangle out but no major hair cut - I figure that it will keep him warm in the winter and keep the sun off in the summer Grin
your ds looks very sweet - I'd leave it and enjoy it while you can :)
PS - dc all have curls - dd has dark hair half way down her back but is always mistaken for a boy and ds1 has short, blond curls and is always mistaken for a girl. ds2 who has long blond curls is, oddly, never mistaken for a girl.

welshandproud · 21/09/2010 11:11

Thanks on the most part for your support. I like the advice to wait until he asks for a haircut but now i'm dreading headlice!

Oienteer, I was glad to see your comment. I thought I'd be the only one saying that.

gomez · 21/09/2010 11:36

DS had fairly long, curly hair - it is no more after an infestaion of nits!

He is desperate for his 'curls' to grow back, I must admit to quite liking it a shorter.
