AIBU in thinking Tesco don't understand 'let girls be girls'

I went into Tesco today and had a quick look round the girls clothing for DD aged 5. I was not impressed with the mini adult clothes on offer. In particular a sequened t-shirt with a picture of the 'teen heart throb' Justin Bieber (whoever he is) embalzoned on the front. I assumed this was for a teen grl but is actually made for a 5-6 year old girl. Tesco have apparently signed up to the 'let girls be girls' campaign which objects to the premature sexualisation of girls. Surely this encompasses little girls walking around with pictures of teen heart throbs and wearing mini versions of their mums clothes. Yuk.

And while I am at it. Got somethign in the post today from Boden - Never bought anything from there in my life but never mind. They has a headline saying something on the lines of 'come and see our brand new teen range'. The age range started at 10. WTF? Thats not a teen.

sizing for age 10 fits my 16 year old tho.....so its fine to have younger sizes in older ranges

YANBU about TESCO, but I think boden may be reasonable. Clothing sizes for children are flexible regarding ages, not all 13 yr olds will fit age 13 for example. I Still buy 13yr old step ds 9-10 mainly.

you said it better than me strawberrycake!!

Hadn't thought about sizing issue for teen clothes so that makes sense. Still on my soap box about Tesco though. Justin Bieber indeed .......

Tesco clearly signed up to the campaign for free "good" publicity with absolutely no intention to change any of the ranges they market at girls. They should be booted off the campaign. Of course they would argue that there is a market for such items - fine, they are a business- but don't sign up to a campaign against it then!
