To not want MTV on when dd is about?

DH wants MTV on when there is nothing else on the TV - God forbid he actually turns it off!

I think some of the ideas are far too sexual and don;t dd exposed to them. She is almost 3 and dh thinks she is far too young to take any notice. Which I can understand, even if I think she is taking it in.

However I know that no matter how old she is, he will still play them in front her with no consideration for how they portry women. He thinks I am just going on when I start talking about the way women are shown and thinks that in the long run by stopping her watching them I am stopping her from being in able to fit in with her peers.

Karma, I've only seen the eminem one once so am prepared to be wrong but I saw him punching walls next to her face, obviously screaming in her face, feigning blows while she shied away etc. I find all that way more disturbing than breasts, be they exposed or iced or with sprinkles on.
I know what you're saying about bringing DV to the mainstream but I don't think that video will be seen as censure of DV.

YANBU Tell your DH that children copy what they see. Is he really going to like it when he sees his tiny DD bumping and grinding and striking sexy poses and repeating sexual lyrics? Because that is what will happen if MTV is always on in the background. Sorry, he sounds ignorant and disrespective. You are the mother, her role model, take a stand. Switch it off.

My concern with the Eminem one is that kids might interpret it to mean that violence is a natural result of 'volcano meets a hurricane' (apologies if that's not exact quote) and think this is what happens in a passionate relationship. Hope they don't, but might be an arguement for children to see it with their parents on MTV, so the parents can discuss it.

I am more concerned with the ones that imply a woman is only of value if she is writhing around half naked, esp the ones with some gross looking man surrounded by lots of women in bikinis.

The first video I really became aware of as being unsuitable for children was Christina Aguilleras Dirrty. Urgh!
