to expect a restaurant meal to not leave me starving

went to a very nice city centre restaurant yesterday and the food was wonderful ( monkfish and braised ox cheeks to start followed by venison and then lovely pud ). Couldn't fault the standard but the portions were tiny.
Main course was 3 tiny cubes of meat with various berries, smears and the chef spit/ foam that comes with everything. All very nice but no potatoes, veg. etc. I'm honestly wondering if they forgot to bring them or the poshness of the place means you have to have a supermodel's appetite.
AIBU to not be eyeing up the Greggs next door after spending £60 per head.
I was thinking of emailing them to let them know their portions are mean.

ooh well done nowherewoman. Have you been?
Of course, main man one handed chap came out to ask if everything was ok to which we all simpered yes fine ( easily star struck by chap off tv!).

I've been, the food was gorgeous, we had the lunch menu which included a (very small) glass of wine with each (tiny) course. I always think of the emperor's new clothes when I think of abode Grin We only paid £21 per head, and I assumed that if you paid more, you would get more. I now know that's not the case.

I've been to an abode, the veg was served sepreately but I don't recall having to actually order it. The beef I had was to die for. I found the hovering waiters very annoying though, I only had to raise my glass and they'd be there ready to refill it. There's attentive, and there's overkeen.

moogster -just reading your last post -was the chef MC?

(Not naming names in case you don't want to name and shame IYSWIM)

If so I went to his restaurant in Exeter (OK he wasn't actually there cooking but its his name) and the food was great and decent sized portions

NorbertDentressangle · 19/09/2010 14:15

aah right, yes the last 2 posts confirm it is who I think it is.

Can I just add, in support of the Exeter abode, I spoke to them in advance to check out veggie options, they said no problem and to mention it when booking. Anyway on the night when we arrived and gave our name to the maitre d' he took us to our table and gave me a separate veggie menu with a choice of veggie dishes on.

IME you don't often get a veggie option in the better restaurant let alone a choice so I was very impressed Smile

I know that you will be up in arms at what I
am about to say but why do people think that
£60.00 plus for a tiny portion of food is
acceptable for that amount per head any one
who can cook properly would be able to eat
like a king for a week.I would certainly not pay those type of prices and it is not that my DH and I cant afford to we most certainly can,but you get such feeling of satisfaction when you produce something fabulous yourself at a fraction of the cost of these over
rated restaurants

moogster1a · 19/09/2010 15:36

Glammanana. I wasn't paying!! Tonight it's home made meatballs ( lots of them!)
