YABU
I have a big family and so have quite a few presents to get. It is hard to think of thoughtful presents for everyone, so I start in Aug/Sept.
Also, many of the above mentioned big family like to call me on Dec 20/21st similar time and say "what shall I get your kids for Christmas?". By which time, loads of toys are sold out. So I like to have some toys in the cupboard that I can either stick in stocking or give to my brothers to give my kids at the last minute. This cupboard (containing things like £5 lego sets) is also useful if it is a child's birthday from school. I don't keep stuff all year round, just from Sept-Dec.
In my city, the shops are chaos from mid october onwards. Try getting a buggy in the lift in December - I waited at a lift (with baby in buggy) with 11 other buggies and 2 wheelchairs one Christmas and from that moment decided that I would always start organising stuff early to avoid that sort of situation.
Also, have been unable to get near the shelves even to look at what is on them sometimes in December. Hate shopping in December, try to avoid by sorting early.
Also, plenty of "must have" toys are selling out even before November.
Depends what you have to sort out for Christmas I suppose.
