I would if the milk tastes okay

HowsTheSerenity · 18/09/2010 20:09

use by dates are a guideline.
Just smell it. It if makes you gag throw it out.

Seona1973 · 18/09/2010 20:09

I quite often use milk in tea that has gone out of date by a day or two. As long as it smells ok it will be ok to use. The sauce will be fine for tomorrow too (imo!)

Al1son · 18/09/2010 20:10

As you're cooking it in the cheese sauce it will be perfectly fine and the sauce will be ok for a few days because you killed off any bugs when you cooked it.

JustAnotherManicMummy · 18/09/2010 20:10

Are you for real? Just asking because milk is on my "if it smells ok it's fine" list. And I assumed everyone was like me.

Give it a sniff. If it's ok it'll be fine Smile

RaisedFromPerdition · 18/09/2010 20:11

Smell and taste it.

My only concern would be that milk that is just about to turn, often does turn as you heat it up. But if you make a cup of tea with it, you'll know if this is likely to happen.

If it smells ok it's fine. Once you've heated it up to make the cheese sauce it won't go off. Well, not any faster than any other cheese sauce would, anyway!

BonniePrinceBilly · 18/09/2010 20:16

Chcek if the milk has a watch or a calender, if not, you'll be fine.

LacyLeggins · 18/09/2010 20:22

ok thanks will use it! just didnt want to waste the cauliflower cheese for the dcs, as i have a huge cauliflower and would hate to see it ruined!! thanks x

I test it by warming a littl ein the microwave.

I find that often milk that is just not akay is not too bad when cold but if it gets warm it curdles and solidifies.

Warm it for a few seconds - if it's still liquid it is fine.
