This was posted by my FIL on DP's wall, with regard to comments by Cardinal Kasper about British 'multiculturalism' "Alleged to refer to the number of coloured workers one sees on arrival at Heathrow? He also claims that a type of "aggresive neo atheism is widespread". Thank goodness for that. Do intelligent people need some
old fool in a frock coat telling what to think or how to act??!!"

I am a Catholic, a liberal one at that and my own father is an atheist. However, I was really shocked that an educated man in his 50s would repond to ignorant bigotry with ignorant bigotry. 'Coloured' ffs!

YANBU to be pissed of at his bigotry

Yabu to be pissed of hes an atheist

two separate issues

IsItMeOr · 17/09/2010 18:32

And if your DP doesn't want the message on his FB wall, can't he just delete it?

HannahHack · 17/09/2010 18:33

@usualsuspect ONCE AGAIN I am NOT pissed of at his atheism. I don't give a f**k about that. His business. I am offended by his gratuitous ignorance.

@curryfreak Yes! That's the reason I put this up here. The blatant irony. It seems to have passed over most people's heads, which is saddening.

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 17/09/2010 18:36

Hide him on fb then

HannahHack · 17/09/2010 18:37

@usualsuspect Good point! Smile

I think you'll find that most atheists don't spend their time hating religion but speak out against it when it is shoved down their throats or when a paedophile-protecting, ignorant old Nazi c*@t is in town.

cumfy · 17/09/2010 18:43

@cumfy Yes, that is my understanding. However, I don't think the best way to respond to outdated bigotry by using outdated bigoted language.

YABU, as far as I can tell.

He is quoting Kallinger, you have tried to make out he has manufactured bigotted comments of his own.

You are being disingenuous by attempting to misrepresent and misattribute FIL's comments in your OP.

Seems there is something much deeper upsetting you. eg FIL-DP relship.

giveitago · 17/09/2010 18:53

Facebook is a hardly a basition of rational or intelligent online behaviour is it?

Your fil's view will have little impact - cardinal kallinger's words have more weight.

But not nice for you as a catholic - but facebook is facebook.

curryfreak · 17/09/2010 18:57

Ah calm down bunny. {smile} Did you notice how warm a welcome he recieved ?

IsItMeOr · 17/09/2010 19:02

Okay then Hannah. YABVU to call him an "atheist" bigot, when what you object to is his use of the word "coloured".

curryfreak · 17/09/2010 19:30

Oh and another thing, i have noticed that atheists have no sense of humour. This has become so apparent over the past few days on threads similar to this.
I say lighten up. Anyone who wears robes as gorgous as the pontiff cant be all bad now can he?

IsItMeOr · 17/09/2010 21:19

Yes, that Stephen Fry just has no sense of humour at all...

I think you'll find many comedians are atheists.

However, I'm not sure why I'm debating with you curryfreak, as if you can't understand how religion interferes with the lives of the non-religious when we live in a country where the head of the state is also the head of the CofE, and we have seats in the House of Lords specifically reserved for CofE Bishops, not to mention a daily act of worship mandated in all state-funded schools...hm, I think I'll leave it at that.
