To think that they should do a uniform big enough?

My friend who is a large lady like myself recently applied for a job and got it...hurrah! It's compulsory in the job to wear a uniform, which is supplied in the building (they have a little shop thing so the employees can go and try the uniforms on) so my friend went and they didn't go up to her size. She was so ashamed and now is having to wear her own clothes when she starts until they decide what they can do for her. So embarassed for her, the poor thing :(

Chooks that's bloody awful. Do bigger women not get haircuts now? Because their attitude would alienate customers as well as staff! Shock and Angry

I can't believe people are being so flippant about the health implications of being overweight. I put on a stone within a year and my doctor voiced concern. My BMI is 26-only slightly overweight but enough for my doctor to suggest I make an effort to lose the excess. I think the more people who are overweight, the more normal it appears to become.

I'm a size 20 and my doctor voiced concern about my weight at DD2's 6 week check. Apparently I should eat less and exercise more.......well NO SHIT SHERLOCK.

The health implications due to being overweight are not the issue. The issue is the OP's friend not being provided with a uniform.

From my reading of the OP, the company hasn't said she can't have a uniform - just that they don't have one at the moment.

Fair enough, I think - although as others have said, it depends on the size. I would have thought there are a fair amount of size 18/20 ladies out there, but far less 28/30. Not stocking the v big sizes may be OK, but the slightly more common sizes not as sensible.

i guess it depends who supplies the uniform too.

i used to work for a company and had to order unifrom from time to time.
the place we got it from didn't go up to huge sizes, and tbh the stuff was also not exactly generous (i am normally a 12, and ended up needing a 14 or 16 in some items)

that meant that when we had a larger lady to kit out it WAS difficult. we sorted it by sourcing things from elsewhere. but it wasn't our fault we couldn't get it from the usual suppliers

Mummikins I hope she doesn't let this spoil her excitement of having got the job in this economy and againt the bias of larger people.

I'm overweight too and in her situation would have been mortified as well - but I hope she can hold her head up high and enjoy her new job.

As others have said, it really does depend what size she is as to whether they should have one in stock or not - anything up to about a 24 I would expect them to have in stock (esp ooop North Grin I'm Geordie stock too!!), but if she's larger than that, then it's not really realistic to expect them to have it in stock - but to their credit, it didn't stop them employing her as it would have in many places :)
